bogus | C6 Ownership - First Observations | ||
Grand Imperial Pooh-Bah
|
I have now owned my C6 for just over three months. This is my ownership report:
1. Overall, the car is an absolute winner. So damned well put together. Worlds ahead of the C4. 2. The Borla sounds bad as hell, but the drone at 1500 RPM is deafening. Borla has a resonator that is supposed to kill it off. 3. Problems... only little things... the auto up/down feature of the window when the doors open sometimes get screwed up and the glass doesn't go where it should. When doing the aftermarket stereo, the first interface didn't work at all, I don't blame the car, but the brand - CRUX. Got the PAC interface and it rocks! 4. Driving... it rides wonderfully, steers, brakes, does it all without fuss. The interior is comfortable and once the drone is gone, will be pleasantly quiet. 5. Comparing this to the C4 is not fair... the C4 was a huge improvement for the Corvette over the C3, and the C5 was another leap forward. Such a leap that the C6 was a reskin and a fine tuning. The structure is so much stronger, the C6 hits a bump and the car takes it, the C4 hits a bump and the car shimmies and shakes all over. Additionally, maintenance is much easier... C5s are running around with 200k miles and still on their original wheel bearings. The C4 gets expensive at about 85k miles, and the early C4s (pre-1991) are worse - the valve seal and head gasket issues of the L98; the weakness of the 700R4... on top of the normal wear items: bearings, shocks, brakes, u-joints, and clutch (manuals). Finally, since the car is a low miles car that is 11 years old, I am going to do a maintenance cycle on it very soon. The next oil change is due soon - Sept or Oct at this rate. I will then do a brake fluid flush, brake pads, trans and diff oils, plus a fuel filter. In short, I am very happy with the car. It runs great and hasn't skipped a beat. To anyone looking for a Corvette, the C6 is a great value to performance ratio available. Period. |

Good to hear! I felt the same way comparing the C4 to the C3. I haven't had a chance to drive a C6 but I'm sure I'd be impressed.

I would agree with Andy's Comments...they just keep getting better.....I suppose the C7 is better yet but has not hit the right price range yet.....
No need to service the fuel filter Andy.......it's buried inside the drivers side fuel tank and is a sumbitch to get to. You only change them if the fuel pump fails......which is rare......and the fuel filter is part of the assembly..... I hate any system that you can't get to without tearing half the car apart to fix it...... Memo: Only use Tier one fuels.......the fuel nowday's is much cleaner then it once was . |

I'm just waiting for the C-8's to come out and get a couple of years on them to where I can afford one. Then I can write an post about how superior they are over the C-6. (even though I haven't actually driven one yet) |

There isn't an external fuel filter? Damn. Thank's for the warning. And yes, I use nothing but Tier 1 fuels. So much better quality... and less chances of problems. I use Shell and Chevron about 95% of the time. The last 5% is Exxon/Mobil... all Tier 1. The C7 is a nicer car, but it's "better-ness" is on the track. I don't see that is valuable... I got 85% of the performance of a C7 for 30% of the money. Oh, and it's absolutely amazing the attention that car gets... apparently, a Velocity Yellow C6 is very well liked... Random people saying how nice it is... leaving a car show, and some dude snaps a pic of it... it almost makes me feel a little famous. and no problems from law enforcement, either. Nada... |

The C7 has a cool interior but the console is wide and that makes for a tighter fit. My C6 fits fine.
This is what was sitting next to us at the motel yesterday morning....... Looks good in real life......757 hp...... I probably need one..... http://www.callawaycars.com/homepage/ ... llaway-aerowagen-package/ |

The C7 space is much tighter. It needs about 2" more width inside and about 1" more headroom.
I do like that body kit!!! |

I like the Callaway... but right now, I am getting used to the 400hp I got!
I am also impressed with the MPGs... about 18 MPG average around the city. Not bad at all. About 1.5 MPG better than the LT1 was getting. |

LS Power rules......crazy the hp they can get out of these things..... I see there is rumors that the LT5 is going to have dual overhead cams.......I mean its not like that hasn't happened before......and it was a hell of an engine....

The LS engines are amazing. Compact, lightweight, efficient, powerful. Insanely powerful.

Andy, speaking of MPGs, we did 1770 miles on the South Dakota trip and used 69.3 gallons of premium fuel. That's 25.5 and about half of those miles were running around the fun twistys in the area, mostly 2nd and 3rd gear, some 4th.

I finally took the top off... OMG... the structural difference between the C4 and the C6 is epic. Absolutely epic.
You can barely notice the difference, from a chassis perspective... the wind is obvious... |

Pappy!
Mine is a base coupe... no Z51. It still sticks like glue without pissing blood that night! The roads here in SoCal suck weeds, so I am glad it's base. The C6 is much firmer and much more solid than my C4 ever was or could be. The frame is much more structurally sound than the limp linguine that is the C4 chassis. |

The C6 is light years ahead of the C4... don't get me wrong, the C4 was ok, but the C5 was a game changer. And the C6 and C7 have consistently improved the game.
I can't wait to see what is next! |

The C5 and early C6 both use the Tremic T56, the later ones, starting with the Z06, IRRC, got the T6060. I don't remember when all C6s got the T6060.
The C5 and C6 cases are not the same, but the guts are. |
