Looking for tips or sympathy attacking the problem. I use a FSM which describes the problem BUT it is very difficult to get at. Straight up from the gas pedal, about a foot and a half.

Put the steering wheel up, put the seat all the way back and get on your back, and look up. The nipples on the controller/programmer have to be trimmed back because of the heat, they collapsed. Then reconnect the vacuum hoses and your done.

Sounds like a one Chiropractor job.

Seriously any tips will be greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of that one, what are the symptoms?
If ya feel acrobatic you could remove the seat and rails. Lay on your back, and make sure you have a cell phone within reach.

I was curious and looked on the "other" forum. There were about 25 guys with 96's with that specific problem. Pull the seat sounds like good advice.
Thanks...

Mine was replaced before I bought it. Now I know why.

I had similar symptoms (where it was blowing out of the defroster vents), and replacing the vacuum check valve under the passenger-side fuel rail cover solved my problem. I got one at NAPA for a little over $2 - might be worth a shot.

I'm going to get into this on Sat. or Sun. Thats what I call a tip....$2.00 to replace, easy to get at and R&R. I'll give it a try.
Thanks,
Ed

I have a '96, but haven't had any issues with it. I have heard of the '96 being the most prone to a vacuum controller issue though.

Here is a link on the other forum that might shed some light on this (if this is in fact the problem your having).

In my case, it would blow out of the defroster vent, and then slowly (like having to drive down the block before it would switch) switch over to blow out of the A/C vents. Disclosure - it actually cost me about $202, as I impulse-bought the low-profile jack they had on sale - LMAO! ;-)

Oh, my wife hates it when that happens.

According to her, there are no "low cost" fixes for anything.
