Chris (CSS996) & I had an "ALL VETTE" day today! Once again, it was fun to talk shop, drive & work on the cars together. We finally got around to getting Chris' Hurst shifter in today. If any of you are thinking about this, do it! Its worth it & not very difficult. Takes a little patience & re-reading the directions a couple of times (without beer)....but in the end, pretty straight forward.

Anyway, heres a few shots of the cars out in front of my house. Thanks to Andrea, my wife for the pics and for putting up with my craziness!

A truly awesome day! I let John install my shifter, buy me lunch, and in return, I got to enjoy his Z a little! I think I got the better end.

Oh, and on top of that, we prevented my cruise control module from leaving the engine bay, adjusted a hard-to-close hood AND fixed my reverse lights. I thought the mounting tabs were broken, but I just don't know jack shit.

The shifter is awesome!!! John, I think the previous owner of my car might have attempted a CAGS eliminator that needs attention. My trouble was first to second shifts only. I should have figured that out. D'oh!

If you can find a Hurst shifter, ask the supplier to open the box and verify the bearings are in the shifter. A LOT of guys got screwed on that deal, including me. I had to send my first unit back.

Once you find one, you know I'll be over in a jiffy to tear apart your Z's interior for the install!

R.I.F. Renching Iz Fun!

Tough to imagine a better day!

Great pix too!

Excellent!

Yeah, the first shifter I got was missing bearings, too, but Summit took good care of me. The install is a little putzy, but not too hard (fortunately I already had the exhaust off).

Sweet! I had to fix the Corsas on my 92.

Isn't the Hurst the best thing? I swear. I so love the feel.

I went a little crazy and got the cool Hurst cueball shifter, too.

Nothing like spending the day with friends and Vettes. And getting some projects knocked out is the icing on the cake.

Looks like a great day! Wish I had more local friends to play with C4s. Wondering about the CAGS eliminator - I thought it was just a wire/plug that you plugged directly into the factory spot - why would that cause difficulty?

Great pics - let's see some more of the Z

Beats me, my friend.

99% of the time, it doesn't work. I go first to second. I've seen the "First To Fourth" light come on maybe five times in the limited driving I've done in the car. A little over a thousand miles, I guess.

Seems like if you eliminated it, then that would be all she wrote. I'll have a look at it next week while I'm on vacation. Shouldn't be hard to deal with, whatever is going on.

I got the same ball. Not sure if it is going to stay though... It's SO white.

I'm thinking brushed aluminum or black. Or maybe I will paint it to match the car, and paint the shift pattern silver...

I'll give myself some time to get used to it, but... It's SO white!

The light will still come on, even with the eliminator. It just fools the solenoid on the transmission.

Good to know, thanks!

It seems to me that if there was NOT an eliminator, I would notice the problem (normal functioning) much more often.

I've only had an issue going from 1-2 two or three times before the swap, but probably five or six times since. So I definately need to disable it. I just wonder why I haven't had that many instances of it in the time I've owned it.

But I don't see how I could own a C4 without a Hurst or eqivalent. I love the throw length and positive feel, and I dig the fact that the knob sits lower. Feels much more natural!

I posted these pix last night, but they seem to have disappeared... Strange.

I can honestly say, this is the first time I've ever looked through the floor of my car and saw a dude down there.

I agree...especially when a good percentage of the projects actually succeed!
