I read in one of Kevins (CentralCoaster) posts that when checking the REAR camber,,,,
the top of the rim should measure 1/8" farther from the vertical plane than the bottom of the wheel. (neg-camber) What shold it be for the front? Currently my front actually hasa postivie camber. |

Without reading all of Kevin's post, it's kinda hard to picture.
Basically with negative camber(both front & rear) the top of the wheel will point in towards the center of the car. If you want to build a really inexpensive camber gauge, go to Sears and get the 8 inch digital level, I got one on sale for $37. Get a piece of 1 in. square tubing that fits your rim size, 17 inch or whatever. The level has a magnetic base, stick it on the tubing, hold the tubing vertically on the wheel and you can take a camber reading. I made one of these just for the hell of it and checked the Sear's level against my Longacre Racing camber gauge. They were very close. |

Camber measurement on 17" wheels (top wheel lip inboard by this amount):
-0" = 0* -1/8" = -.4* -1/4" = -.8* -3/8" = -1.2* -1/2" = -1.6* -5/8" = -2.0* -3/4" = -2.4* -7/8" = -2.7* -1" = -3.1* VB&P recommended Front/Rear Daily Driver = 0* / 0* Adv. Street = -.25* / -.5* Track = -1-3* / -.75-2.5* AutoX = -1.5-3* / -.75-2.5* |

We have faced the same issue and made a really easy tool to use for toe, thrust angle easily. This was one of those made by popular demand things. I was using it for years and guys that saw it made me put it into production! The tool is now made with a slotted wheel interface plate for all 5 lug cars. Share it with your BMW and Rustang friends!

This is a pretty good page, it's been around for quite a while. The only thing I don't like is using the jack stands with parallel strings. I've seen so many people do this and have errors of +/- 1/8inch. I see the same thing at the track where guys lay strings over the rear tires on top of the raised letters or on rears that have the toe screwed up. The same thing can happen with the Nascar style toe plates that just lay against the tires v.s. Gary's adapters which would be very accurate. If you are going to string the car, you need an accurate, repeatable setup. I build my own alignment bars and they're within 1/32 in. to the centerline of the car. |

WOW the price range on those digtal levels is something else!
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/search_101 ... 605?keyword=digital+level The hardest part is find a level spot of ground. If you can ZERO the digital levels out, like my digital calipers, then all you should need is a good spot on the car, frame perhaps, that's level, and align the car to it. |

Drives and tracks perfect, it was way off on almost everything since i welded on the new shock towers in the front, lowered the car, and put new brackets on teh rear. Car is lowered to REAR 26-3/4 and FRONT 25-7/8 www.performancedrivenllc.com |

Great, it's also easy to build a rim adapter like the one that comes with the Smart camber. I built and calibrated one for my Longacer bubble camber/castor gauge after considering what Longacer charged for one. Same way with the Smart Camber, they cost $150 and the hands free adapter is an additional $50. Their resolution isn't any better than Sears ( 1/2 degree). I also checked the Sears against the Smart Camber in the raceshop, their readings were identical. |

That way I have a laser, which can come it handy for both aligning the car and at home. It was $15 OFF at the local SEARS I like how it tells you the temperature when you turn it on. |
