That may have been before my time but I still did those things in my youth. I really miss the drive-in A&W and the drive-in movies, both are long gone here. Still lots of car action around though, this weekend is the 28th St Metro Cruise here in Grand Rapids...something like 250,000 people.

My dad told me this story when I was too young to drive, and I never forgot it.

Not sure what year, but before I was born. Mid sixties.

My dad was at May's Drive In in Bloomsburg, PA.

All the guys were hanging out with their cars. I think my dad had a Triumph TR3 at the time. White with a black top.

A guy pulls in in a new Cobra. Everyone just about shit themselves looking at the car. The guy casually eats his food, and prepares to take off.

He pulls slowly out of the parking lot, and eases the power on in first gear. Continues slowly up the road and smoothly shifts into second gear. Everyone at the drive in is pissed that they guy didn't show off a little.

Then, he puts the car in third and FLOORS IT!

The tires broke loose, billowing smoke and the car blasted off up the highway.


COOL.

A few 427 Cobras at the original invoice price of around $5K sure would've been a good investment. They were already well done making Cobras before they ever made a Vette that would even give it good race. Even the 289 ones were no slouches with over 300 HP by the time Carroll was done tweaking them. Some of the 427 ones were well over 500 HP with just a bit of tuning. Not too shabby in the mid 60s. Even a Ferrari would shudder in their wake.

Five Grand... DAMN.

Yea, those are some sweet cars. Still love those 59&60 Impala fins! Can you imagine using a 55 Nomad as a push car? I'd like to push it right into my driveway and just look at it.

I was just a little guy then but I remember. Those were my favorite decades except for maybe the seventies and eighties.

I went with the Mrs a few weeks ago.
About 250 cars, from the 30s to present day exotic cars.

I never lived in those days, but I do go to the drive-in and the drag strip. Not many others my age seems to though.
