Did I hear that right? The FOX newscaster just said Ike is as large as the state of New England.

Yet the news still managed to blow it out of proportion. They look disappointed in their search for damage. They make a mockery of the entire thing and their reports have nothing of substance that might actually serve to inform the locals involved. I couldn't count how many times I heard "certain death" on the broadcast.

those news reports were only echoing a mantra spoken by the Feds.

After studying some of the past storms to hit Galveston, I was pretty convinced that a 20' (predicted) surge was going to flatten that place. They got lucky with a surge that was < 14'.

Did you see the images of I-45? It had boats and shit everywhere.

That debri all over the road used to be homes. Anyone in them would have been killed. Actually they're already starting to count up the bodies

Watched some stuff on the news today. A lot of dramatic footage. They were talking about the people who refused to evacuate and survived and are still refusing to evacuate. Can't explain why some people do what they do.

Don't worry, Brian. It was a C4. No one cares about those anyway.

Well, we got a taste of it way up in here in Indiana. Ike came straight up through Alabama and Tennessee right for us. Of course less powerful. Gusts were still up to 85MPH. We have TONS of power lines and trees down up here. We have no power and they say we might not for a week.

I am willing to bet my laptop battery will not last that long.

Unfortunately, except for the owner, your right

A member on the "other forum" had to leave his car "in harms way" unfortunately too it didn't make it.

BTW Ike took out a pipeline.

That EVERYONE will care about...

... the next time they go to fill up.

Tell me about it. I drove from Indianapolis back to Chicago today. A three hour trip took four and a half in the pouring rain. Factor in the fact that I-80 was shut down due to flooding in both directions at mile marker 5.6. I stopped at a gas station off of I-65 to get gas and there was a ton of standing water. About an hour later, I heard on the news report that the same gas station I was at had flooded so bad water was up to cars' door handles. Luckily I was in the Xterra and didn't have too much trouble. Ugh. What a long day in the car.

It's only stuff. As long as your living you can always get more and sometimes better stuff. Yup, it sucks to lose things. Fortunately, some days are better than others.
