I have a complete LS1 (out of a 2001 Z28) with a LS6 intake married to a 4L60E automatic transmission that I am preparing to install into my 1984 Corvette.

My plans for this car are to get it down to about 2,800 LBS and get as much horse power to the wheels as possible while still having a car that is somewhat “drivable”. This car will not spend time at the strip (and if it finds its way to the strip it will be on street tires). Most of the action this car will see, is going to be from a 30+ mph punch. Ideally I would like to be able to treat a stock C4 like a redheaded step child and inch away from a Z06.

I plan on keeping the LS6 intake, the factory bottom and replacing the heads with LS6 heads. I will also upgrade the throttle body, injectors, and run headers onto mufflers with a dyno tune.

My question is: Can anyone recommend a cam for this type of setup?

Also, are you running a similar setup (LS1, LS6 intake and heads etc)? If so what kind of cam are you using and have you had the car on a dyno / what kind of RWHP are you getting?

I am also very interested in any other modification you can recommend.

I know there is a lot of way to get huge horsepower out of the LS1. The key to this build is keeping the factory lower and using the LS6 intake and LS6 heads.

I am going with a 3,000 stall torque converter

Thanks

You don't need much. There are plenty off the shelf grind combos that are available. All of them will fit the bill and be close to the same hp level. Just look for one within the 23x/23x and about 580-600 lift.

I'd be happy to help you..... but I can't, no personal experience/knowledge on the LSx motors.

I do know, if you manage to select the right cam, you'll make a lot of HP with those motors !! Good Luck !

You dont even need that big a cam in the LS platform to make big power. With a stock GM shortblock in my C5 Vette and a well optimized pump gas package (with AFR 205 heads and a 224/228 cam), I routinely put down 475 RWHP/435 RWTQ....there were a couple of magazine articles about the build etc.

In fact I think there is one on our website....

Found it....copy this package as much as you can afford to and you would be in good shape!

http://airflowresearch.com/articles/article078/A-P1.htm

Its a good read if you own a C5....LOL

-Tony

PS...With stock LS6 heads and a stock LS6 intake and alot less of the bells and whistles I addressed you would likely see about 100 RWHP less (with a manual trans)....still not too shabby for a smallish cam with perfect driving manners.

Sure do...

Here is an 11.20 run at 124 MPH

Great vid Tony ! I've always liked in-car video's, they give a better feel to them. Here's one of me when I had the 383 from several years ago. This is with my Flowtech Warlock mufflers capped up..... pretty quiet.

Here's an out of car against one of those pesky Mustangs with the warlocks un-corked.
