My oldest son finished college today - he informed us that he will be getting a special cap and gown, having achieved a 4.0 GPA.

A friend of ours sells real estate. She said that their office had gotten 10 new listings within the past 2 weeks, and that 5 of them sold within a week. She also said that people are starting to hold out for their price, not accepting lowball offers. So maybe the worm is starting to turn.

Thanks, everybody! My son had gone to school for 2 1/2 years, then quit for a couple, not sure what he wanted to do. He finally decided on his own that he wanted his degree, so he's been going to evening classes to finish. I'm very happy for him.

Sounds like a lad on a mission. I'm sure he will succeed in life. Kudos.

He got a degree in marketing. Hopefully the economy will turn around so he can find something decent. He's been working at a plastics factory for a few years - not a great job, but his boss has treated him well.

My son was a late bloomer also when it came to graduating from the university.. His second semester he dropped 3 classes and I turned off the funding. I told him I didn't have money to throw away. When he returned to school on his dime (from student loans) his performance improved dramatically. He graduated several years ago with bachelors in computer science. At the time, he was working for a DOD contractor writing software programs for the various services. Good job making good money with good benefits As a reward for his valiant effort, we paid off his student loans. With no financial responsabilities and unencumbered by not having a girlfriend or wife, he turned in his resignation to his employer. He told me that it was due to the high stress environment. He took a year off spending his meager retirement fund and proclaimed he was now seeking a career in the music industry. Something of which he has no marketable experience. At 30, he hasn't got a pot to piss in, still chasing a dream and taking classes I imagine, to forward his new aspirations. I hear from him sporadically. Never alludes to what he's doing but lets me know he's alive. I wish him all the best in life. It's his life. He has to live it. Success is not always financial.

Thank you ........ Thank you very much ........ I now return the podium.

Parenting can be rather thankless at times. Thank goodness for those proud moments!

Part of my son's hiatus was going to a music production school - he finally came to the realization that there was no money in that. Children are proof of the adage "You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink."

Congrats Brad, It is one of the highlights of parenthood seeing your kids achieve a significant goal, makes you damn proud. The next highlight (at least for me) was getting them out of my house, no empty nest syndrome for my wife and I :laughing2:
