I read about this gizmo in the latest Corvette Fever - it lets you use a 94-95 PCM in an L98 or early LT1:

Looks interesting but what will it cost. The Moates ostrich tuner will essentially do the same thing and you don't need to install a new pcm.

Not really. The Moates will not provide you with multple O2 sensors or sequential injection.

True. But they are touting this as the solution for laptop tuning and no chips to burn. That's exactly what the ostrich does. And having two basic o2 sensors isn't that much better than having one. Make it a wideband, and yes. Aside from that, there is no cost on this yet. I expect it to be pretty pricey.

I haven't seen anything on pricing, but I thought it looked pretty cool. I think just for grins, he should include a step to remove the water pump and balancer pulley during installation ;-)

When I get around to needing a new engine, I'm probably going go the LS1 route:

sequential-FI, throttle-by-wire, COP, all the neat modern stuff.

You have to appreaciate the benefits.

1) Multiple O2 sensors means that the computer knows what is happening on both banks, not just one.

2) The SFI will improve overall drive quality, MPG and performance. It's the #1 reason why the later C4s can get over 30MPG highway - all day long.

3) The options for programming increase. If Craig decides to stop selling the Ostrich, well....

4) Emissions. If your state tightens testing, this computer setup will nearly guarentee passing.

I agree there are benefits. But I'll wait to see price before I make a final decision of benefit vs cost.

There's an easier way...well, maybe not easier, but cheaper, anyway.

Get a new harness made ($350 - 450 depending on complexity) and get a used '95 pcm from ebay ($100). Lots of places do custom harnesses, but Jimsperformance.com is the man. One of you Guru's sent me there last year.

Or you can run the computer from a VORTEC truck motor, and eliminate the optispark from any LT1 car...

Keep in mind you'll need to piggy back in the old ECU to run the dash.

Ya know what, I always forget about things like that as I have all analog guages. Good point, Brian. I only use about 55% of the circuits on the ECM.

As usual, you guys can ignore me.

They'd probably have a nice business just selling their distributors to replace the optispark and have an LT1 intake swap program to get an intake with the proper hole milled.

The problem is that the HEI distributor is a step BACKWARDS.

At least this is forwards. I prefer any system that allows me to use coils... I hate distributors. Horrid machines.
