My wife just told me that a friend's son, who is a firefighter in northern MN, was chosen to be on Extreme Makeover. Apparently they started filming and building his house today, and they sent he and his family to Hawaii.

That's awesome.
They usually pick people who are in real need, so I hope this helps your friend's son.

THATS COOL. THEY DID 2 IN THE ST LOUIS AREA LAST YEAR.I WAS A FAMILY WITH 2 HANDICAPPED KIDS AND THE OTHER WAS FOR A HANDICAPPED GUY WHO NEEDED TO UP DATE HIS DRIVE THRU COFFEE KISK. IT WAS A OLD KODAK CUBICAL ON A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT. THE DAM THING DIDNT HAVE ANY HEAT IN IT EXCEPT FOR THE HEAT OFF THE COFFEE POTS AND A LAME A/C WINDOW UNIT. MAN WHEN THEY GOT DONE WITH BOTH OF THEM THEY WERE REALLY NEAT. WHAT WAS EVEN NEATER WAS ALL THE LOCALS THAT JUMPED IN TO HELP AND THE CONSTRUCTION CO'S WERE GREAT ALSO. IT WARMS YOUR HEART TO SEE THAT THERE ARE STILL SOME GOOD PEOPLE AROUND.

My wife told me today that it is supposed to be aired as the first episode of the season, on September 27th. Apparently this is the smallest, "greenest" house they have done. I guess it rained almost the whole time the family was in Hawaii, so they're going to send them again. Our friends said it was an incredible experience.
