Good Morning CGs!

Well, I'm sitting in the hotel room while wifey is sleeping in late. The wireless internet here is goofy, so I don't know how much I'll be on. We ate dinner and gambled a little bit last night, had a good time. Today we are gonna do a little shopping outside the casino and then I'll get in a workout when we get back. Later tonight my BIL, cousin, and his gf are all coming to join us. Should be fun!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

It's cold here, and I just made an early trip to ACE for some extra thick washers for my rocker arm studs. I had to buy some longer studs to get enough thread so my poly locks would actually thread on. The ARP studs I got...awesome...but they have the guide plate locator shank and wouldn't seat all the way. Since I'm not using guide plates with my self aligning full rollers, I needed a thick washer to get them to seat properly. Just test fit them and BINGO...I finally have the right combination and my rocker geometry is SPOT ON !!!

Time to do my final head bolt torque step, re-prime the engine, and set the rockers.

Waiting for a long bolt for my belt tensioner too, and this engine is just about done.

Here's are some teaser pics.

Soon I'll be off to the airport. We planned this trip for months with 5 of us. The others being my ex FIL, MIL and SIL. We have all got along well for the past 27 years. We all knew it was my ex that was the problem. We have never had issues. Well FIL was driving MIL to the store in Ga yesterday. She noticed he missed his turn and told him. No response from him. He apparently had a mini heart attack while driving . He kept going straight until he was stopped by a tree he sideswiped. Paramedics came and he is now hospitalized. Fortunately he is recovering and going through tests today. Looks like my wife and I are on our own. Most important thing is he's alright. Now my wife and I will be in for a big adventure. Be back on the 21st. Have fun.

Whoa, that's quite a turn of events, Tommy - mojo for a speedy recovery, and hope you and your wife have a great trip!

Man, hope that engine runs as sweet as it looks!!

Gonna hunker down and try to put a dent in my Christmas shopping this weekend. No other projects to work on, at least that I've been informed of yet.

Thanks guys. It's slow going with it being cold in the garage and waiting for parts but I have almost everything I need and I hope to have the engine bay ready for the engine and transmission before spring so it's broken in and ready to dive to the first show next year.

Wow Tommy! Prayers for a speedy recover and.

Durango boy - will you send me some bling like that for Christmas? That's all I'm missing on my vette - a new engine.....
Still sneezing and crap, I'm sick of getting sick, but this upcoming three month vacation should do me some good. :thumbright:
Lot to do today, but might just hold the couch down...

Ha ha, yeah the engine would fit but the accessories and carbs won't. LOL.

Thanks everyone. I'm approaching the culmination of a 4 year build on this engine, 5 actually this January.

awesome!!!

But ya know... I used washers to make up for the lack of a guide plate and everyone ragged me for it... geez...

Well it was a last resort, or spend three times as much for longer studs...again. I checked with several machine shops and they all said the same thing. Washers instead of guide plates is perfectly fine. They do the same thing, neither is better or worse, and in this case these studs are designed to have either a guide plate or washer under it. If I recall correctly that's even printed somewhere on the ARP site.

Waiting for my brother in law and cousin/gf to get here to party a little. Wifey is taking a nap. While I was working out in the gym earlier, she went to gamble to kill time. She hit a nice little jackpot on the penny slots, a few hundred bucks. Not bad, huh! We'll gamble a little more later, but not too much.

Tommy - very sorry to hear about your (ex) FIL. Hope he recovers soon!

DB - engine looks sweet! Don't worry about the washers. Just used high quality ones. When I asked edelbrock about using guide plates or not on my heads, they told me to use washers if no guideplates (they usually supply them if bought new), so obviously it's pretty standard.

Wow that engine looks great! Tommy, have a good time on the cruise and we will be thinking and praying for your ex FIL.

I spent yesterday installing cabinets and counter top, measuring and cutting stock, for some additional trim I have to make for the job.

Today our men's group from church did a fund raiser. We sold and made 120 dozen beirrocks, for you guys up north, I think you call them Runza's. We have the process down pretty well and we started at 9am this morning and I was out delivering by 1:30 and we were all done cleaned up and home by 3pm. The project usually nets us about $1500 so it's a good project, we get to spend some quality time together and it allows us to raise money for the charities that we support.
