Just bought one and am having a problem. I did not receive the spacers as it was bought used.

When I start the bolt in one side I can NOT get the other side to fit. Im to believe the bar is to wide. Does anyone have the length tip to tip on the top and bottom? the angles are right just seems .25-.35" to long.

I planned on making the call tomorrow. Just wanted to know if any of you have run into a similar issue.

Its a 2 inch thick light weight bar that attaches to the stock seatbelt holes and can retain stock seatbelts and run race harnesses as well. It is also known to stiffen the chassis. Supposedly very noticeable improvement when top is off.

Okay good, because my first instinct was to reply with a dirty and inappropriate comment.

I don't recall, do you have stock seats? Using a harness with them is not good.

Stock seats for now but the harness I have will work fine. When I get my sport seat I will put in my 5 pt camlock.

The one Ill use until then is much like a 4 pt airplane seat belt. The kind used mostly for offroad trucks. Its comfortable and easy to use. but I will also retain my stock belts to not piss of cops

As for ordering the right bar is why I asked for the dimensions. I bought it used for a steal and was TOLD it was a c4 bar.

Sport seats? Corvette sport seats?

Not to belittle what you're doing but, those seats are too wide for a harness. The shoulderbelts will be too far apart.
It's possible that in a front collision for the shoulder harness to move even wider and you'll slip thru it.

There are modifications to the Corvette seats that will eliminate this if you're interested.

There was an interior dimension change in 90. So you may have the wrong bar for your car.

thats what gary said. Looks like Ill be cutting up my nice harness bar to shorten it haha

and as for the seats they are next on my to buy list. Im thinking some recaro type since I fell in love with them but that will likely be decided on a spur of the moment thing as most things are with my car.

Seriously, though, pay attention to the seats. It's awesome that you're getting into the sport at a young age, but to make sure you're still around when you're Bill's age ( ) you should do the safety equipment correctly.

Get some sport seats with the slots for the harnesses, don't wrap them around the back or bring the crotch strap up over the front.

haha yessir. I planned on a seat made for a 5 pt
helmet is next which is what im checking out today.
Snell are nice and expensive. Depending on how much I have after rims and tires will determine when I get my seat

Getting in young is good, at 19, I was racing 500 mile desert races on 2 wheels and had 7 years under my belt crewing in a bunch of different racing venues.

I remember only a couple of years ago explaining to a guy that was building a C4 racecar why to put in a fire system vs an extinguisher.

What is should really say:
It's awesome that you're getting into the sport at a young age, but to make sure you're still as fast as Bill when you're Bill's age .

G forces in the corners keep ya young though.

I know you know this already, but I'd spend the money on the harness and seat first...

Just saying.

When I got started safety stuff was the last thing I bought; safety doesn't necessarily make you go faster. But in the last ten years I've totalled 2 cars, flipped one and flew 50 yards UPSIDE-DOWN before landing, been on fire at 125 mph, and put the 'vette into a wall multiple times with multiple degrees of damage.

And due to the proper safety equipment I'm here to tell you about it, with nothing but a few bruises. I got hurt more playing hockey than I ever did racing...

Take a look at this thread from last summer:

http://www.corvette-guru.com/modules/ ... hp?topic_id=9089&forum=55

I was there when that happened, the guy walked away with no serious injuries. This ain't no joke!

Im looking at seats instead of paying attention in my microbiology class. Im going to make another thread about seats (yes i know there is one already). I am looking at a few seats that I think would serve my purpose well.

Any places close to you where you can try on the helmits? That's the most important thing.

How much $$$ are you planning for the helmit?

You can get a very nice helmit for that, Simpson, Bell, etc. and the Snell 2005's easily in that range.

Most HPDEs will allow DOT helmits. If you plan on any street bike riding, you'll need a DOT. The only difference is the lining, Snell is nomex and the approvals (stupid government BS).

If you find something you like, you can save $50-$75 by buying on line.

You can also get a decent helmit from guys like G-Force for $150 . I really don't have any experience with the G-Force helmits but their other products like harnesses are very good for the $$$.

I use Bell helmits exclusively but that's just what I like.

Good deal. Oh yea, 2010 is accepted in SCCA, I'm a licensed SCCA tech inspector. 2010 actually will be a requirement soon, if not already (I haven't got my new GCR yet).

#1 - wouldn't it be easier/more effective to sell that bar and buy the right one rather than cutting it up?

#2 - I have an HJC that I wore on my motorcycle very similar to that one. I found it very comfortable. I still use it for atv-ing.

The bar was having a problem selling in the first place so selling it would be difficult. Plus I got it alot less than a new one retails. I can weld pretty well and it shouldnt be a problem. Plus its a challenge.

that is unless someone on here needs a hardbar for a good price
