is the only seat you listed that will work with a 5pt, and then only if you option it for the extra hole (+$50 non returnable) Also, you may want to contact corbeau about the tall driver option, it gives you an extra 1" of headroom, which will more than likely be required if you are going to wear a helmet. (nother $40) |

Look for a used seat, you can save some money. Take a look at the NASA forums (www.nasaforums.com) there is a whole for sale section. Also racingjunk.com, but there are a lot of ads to filter through.
You can buy a nice used seat cheap, and then when you get a few more bucks you can buy a new cover (~$100) so it looks nice. Keeping the recliner option makes things a little tougher, and more expensive. Are you sure you need it? A good race seat is pretty comfortable. I wouldn't worry about being tall, I'm 6'4" and use a Sparco Corsa. I had a Corbeau before that but it didn't meet the fire requirements so I sold it awhile back. Still have a Corbeau in the passenger side, though. I know a guy that has a very nice Schroth 6 pt harness that was never installed. He'd sell it cheap, maybe $80? |

Jon's got a point. One of my students got 2 Sparcos in mint condition for 1/2 price.
I'm in Summit a couple of times a month, I looke at the seats in your link that were on display, they're OK but I'm not that impressed. |

A very nice harness, unfortunately, it won't pass SCCA tech. Or NASA. |

Keep in mind, most sanctioning bodies stipulate the same or better for passengers. And a 5 point is no more hassle than a 4 point. |

I've been informed that the JetPilot will pass tech. In the pic, it lools like there is more that one release point, the rule book states one common release point. So, the current rule book could use some adjusting. |

Where are you located? I know lots of people who could do the work if you can't find someone local.

For what its worth, I just run my 5 pt harnass through a T bolt drilled into my roll bar behind my head.... comes across the shoulders perfectly using the standard seat.
The 5th point, which is the crotch belt is rarely utilized.... NHRA techs do not even check for it in cars running north of 9 seconds. But, I do have it and have it bolted to a small aluminum crossbar that I have going across the under seat bolts. My 5 pt harnass, which has to be re-inspected or as I do, just purchase another one every few years due to an NHRA requirement for it.(They want you to have it re-certified or just buy a new one.... although most tracks won't check for this.... some actually do) I just buy the RCI harnass for around $ 60-70 from Jegs..... or you can re-certify by sending it back to the manufacturer who will do so.... of course at a small cost. Make sure your helmet is rated with either SNELL K98, M2000, SA2000, M2005, or SA2005 specifications.... as required by NHRA. That $ 200 helmet you're looking at is probably okay, but you should make it sure it is tagged on the inside of the helmet in the back.... they will ask and check. Don't forget you'll need a NHRA spec fire jacket if you're planning on running 11.49 or quicker..... SFI 3.2A/1 rating.... they're cheap though.... under $ 100 good luck with whatever you choose ! |
