Good Morning CGs!

TGIF, huh!?! I've been waiting for this all week. For some reason these past few days were draggggggging on. I think it was the heat that made me so tired. Looking forward to the weekend. My folks are coming in so that will be nice, and I've got a few projects around the house. I got the garage cleaned up last night and it looks 1000 times better, but still not perfect. Oh well.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

It's hot here too. 100 yesterday.
Tomorrow, I'll be at the track, in the desert, it's supposed to be 102. It'll be interesting to see what the asphalt temp. gets to.

Severe thunderstorms roared through are area last night. 1 3/4 of rain in 40 minutes. Temp dropped from 96 to 67. Today high of 90 but low humidity.
Have fun at the track!

I am sitting in the Detroit airport waiting for my second flight.
When I get home,I get to rip the exhaust off the vette to fix a leaky transmission.
How ironic. I can build them leak free for anyone, but my own leaks like a fire hydrant.
Oh well. Cryin aint gonna fix it.
I will cry about the leaky rear main seal (engine) another day.

I hate leaks.
Rear mains are the worse because of the work required to get to them.
I's nuts when you put one in on the bench, it leaks. You put in another on the car using the same care and it lasts 10 years.

I did the oilpan on my LT1 a couple months ago. It leaked from the front. Got lucky, turned the 2 front bolts a sixteenth, it quit and hassen't leaked since.

Good Morning Guys and Letty too!

I'm recovering quickly and feel pretty good! Thanks to the marvels of modern pharmacology! Below substitute "Wiser" for Vicodin! LOL

I don't want no coffee or tea
Just me and good buddy Wiser
That's all I ever need

I prefer to be by myself"

Morning guys....I guess it's afternoon now. Been out in the shop. It's going to get hot today...already 92. No rain in sight for the next 2 weeks, might be a miserable two weeks.

Don, I'm glad that you are getting on so well...whatever it takes. Pete, leaks are the pits. Hope you can get it fixed without too much trouble. Bill 102 at the track is still more fun than 102 working outside.

Try it with: Black Carbonex long underwear, a 3 layer driving suit that weighs 10 lbs, a Nomex hood and a helmit over that. a Sweaty, sweaty, sweaty.

This rear main leak has me twisted up.
It is a 406 with the special align honed seal.
I checked the machined bore size, and it was dead on Fel-Pro's spec. I am positive (took pics) tht the seal went in correctly, had the usual 3/8 offset and a slight coat of rtv on the edges only.
Very thin smear of rtv on the cap mating surface, and rear cap torqued correctly.
There is no way this should leak unless:
Defective seal
Crank not correcly sized where it rides the seal.
I am praying for defective, as I did not mic the seal surface. I could not find the published spec, so I ignored it. I hope that doesn't bite me in the ass.

Yea, hopefully the seal's bad. Even as good as you are, sometime things happen.
I had the same thing happen 5 years ago on the racecar. I rebuilt the motor (Ford) and the rear main leaked, same thing RTV in the edges, etc. Scat crank with 10 races, seal surface looked perfect.
I have an engine run-in stand to run the motor on for 20 min, break in the cam, etc. The seal leaked right away. I carefully pulled it out and looked at it under magnification and couldn't see anything wrong.
Threw another seal in and no leak, go figure. At least the motor wasn't in the car.

You'll find it.

You are right.
Human error on my part cannot be ruled out. I am hoping for a similar deal. New seal and pan gasket arrived yesterday, so I will get on it next weekend after I return from California.

Do you need the Kent Moore tool for the seal?

Thanks for the offer Steve, but I should be ok.
It is an old 400 block w/ a 2pc rear seal. The plastic shoehorn the provide should let it slip in.
