Todays plan ... Work on the paint of my wifes 911. The white paint on the rear quarters is hazy. Gonna work on that and see if I can brighten it up. It is and will be oppresively hot here for at least another month. It is not a lot of fun working outside in the mid 90s temps. I'll try to hit it early. Going out for dinner tonight to celebrate my wifes and neices B-day together. This will be the second B-Day dinner. We did one last Sunday with her parents. So basically, she had a pre B-day, a B-day and a Post B-Day. Next year she hits the Big five-0 so I'm gonna have to throw a big bash. Worry about that next year. Have a nice day everyone.

Good Mornin' gurus!

Tommy - I spent most of the day on Saturday last weekend buffing the hood and cleaning the roof on my Xterra. We have this nasty tree that drops these little purple berries all summer long. I typically go out and spray the car and the driveway off every morning before leaving for work. Since you are familiar with trees; you have any idea what this tree is. Its a pretty big tree, probably a good 40 ft or more and at least a 16" trunk. I notice in my area a lot of these trees. Hopefully going to get it taken down sometime in the future. Its ruining the driveway and cars.

I did get the X looking great again though. Just a lot of elbow grease and the help of the PorterCable.

Starting to pack and get ready for our trip to Florida. I can't wait to get out of here. What's the weather outlook for next week Tommy?

Howdy! The new buggy is in the shop getting a clear bra installed - figured I'd give that a whirl this time around before the front end gets all nicked up. Are you ready for some football? I am hopeful that the Vikes will extract revenge from the Saints tonight, but I am not overly optimistic. They should actually extract revenge from themselves, the way they coughed up the ball in the NFC title game last year.

Have a good day, all!

Don

I asked about the tree. I don't really know. Your in a different climate. If I find out something I'll let you know.

http://www.trees.maryland.gov/pickatree.asp

Maybe
HACKBERRY (Celtis occidentalis)
Height: 40'-60', Spread same. In youth weakly pyramidal; in old age the crown is a broad top of ascending, arching branches. Medium to fast growth. Prefers rich, moist soils, but grows in dry, heavy or sandy, rocky soils; withstands acid or alkaline conditions; moderately wet or very dry areas; tolerates wind; full sun; withstands dirt and grime of cities. Fruit is fleshy, orange to dark purple, ripening in September to October. Leaves are yellow to yellow-green in fall. Good tree for park or large area use. Useful tree for adverse growing conditions. Fruit is popular with winter birds, especially the cedar waxwing, mockingbird, and robin.

Hummmm, waxer thread. I'd do my 92 but I'm cleaning my garage,
Actually, the pickup's full and I'm headed to the landfill.
Then, I'll attack more of the garage. I may be tearing down part of one work bench to move my solvent tank and try and make room for a new air compressor.
And I'll stop at HD for more shelf brackets. I'll have shelves wall to wall by the time I'm done.

Good Morning CGs!

Well I tried to go for a run with the rugrat last night that didn't work out to well. Had her in the running stroller and got about 1.5 miles when she decided she wanted to get out and run. So for about 15 minutes she walked/ran beside me essentially killing my workout. But it was a lot of fun for her. She finally decided to sit back down and I ran about another .75 miles to the park where she got to play for 40 minutes or so. Again, she had a ball. Then it was home for dinner and of course she didn't want to leave. But all the running let her wear herself out and she was out like a light when we put her down to bed.

Today we plan to go to the zoo (her favorite place) and then I would like to get a suit tailored, a weightlifting workout, maybe change the trans fluid, and whatever else pops up. Plus my neighbor said he might have some 2x4s for me to build the shelving in the garage (whole day job, btw).

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

What??? Didn't you see me on "Hoarding-Buried Alive" last nite?
The whole problem is that the shop is too damn small.
But then, if it was 40 x 40, I'd still trash it.

Maybe Bill is spending a lot of time in his garage sitting in a high back bar stool looking at the stuff saying; I gotta move that, I have to junk that, gotta find a place for that. Yup, I gotta do that.

You couldn't be more wrong. The bar stool in my shop doesn't have a high back.

Went out for chinese food last night (thursday night tradition at our house) also my night to cook so I kinda made up the tradition to keep from having to cook.

I was sitting at a stoplight headed home in the Vette when a State Patrol pulled up behind me. I took off easy and got about a 100 yards when the lights came on. I pulled over and got everything out and the nice lady patrolman told me my plates had expired. Duh, I guess we have to get our plates renewed every year here, go figure! Also my insurance card was out of date. She was nice and only gave me fixit tickets but I saw her ogling my car and me also I'm sure. That's what my wife thinks. So today I am getting those things fixed.

Go Vikings! We have what's called a mulberry tree here that has purple fruit and the birds eat them and it is not pretty what they do to the cars. Go gettum Guru's

Bill, no matter how big the shop is, it isn't big enough...Right? That's one of those theorems that educators should teach....I do. Don, what did you use along with the P-C? Don, when I read your description of the tree, my first thought was Hackberry, not knowing whether or not they were native to your area, apparently they are. What does the bark look like, that might narrow it down.

I cleaned the pickup up last evening, while listening to the Royals get beat again.....no comments required from you Brad. . So this morning I get up and guess what?....It's raining, oh well it was nice sitting in the garage. Matt, sometimes when the kids want something it's better just to give in and let them experience things.

Kids are calm again today...well at least until the ms kids get here.

I use a couple different products to get where I want to be. The hood of the truck was relatively clean, but the berries had left some stains and some of the fruit skin had tiny dried flecks that were difficult to remove. A clay bar and detail spray took care of the little flecks of crap. Then I followed up with some SONUS Swirl remover and then some Einszett Paint Polish. I did this until I had a mirror finish and then topped it off with Meguire's Gold Class Paste wax.

The roof of the truck was a disaster area. The berries and leaves had collected under the roof rack and basket that most Xterras have on top. I made a slurry of 3M Perfect It II Rubbing compound and water. I essentially scrubbe the roof with piece of terry towel and the rubbing compund slurry. It did real well at removing the decomposing stains left by the leaves and berries. I then followed that up with the Einszett Polish and Gold Class wax

I checked with Wikipedia and the tree is a Hackberry. Its pretty huge and really has become a problem this year more than any of the past two we have lived here. I have scooped up buckets of these berries and tossed them over the fence in past couple months. It is unbelievable how many fall each night. I have to rinse the cars off in the morning and the driveway or we track that crap back into the house!!! inside the cars and everywhere else.

I just got back from the Avenue of Smells, the landfill. had one gal. of old white primer that I thought was dried out -Not. So I had to scrub down the pickup bed.

So, I was standing in the garage and got an inspiration from Tommy: "Maybe Bill is spending a lot of time in his garage sitting in a high back bar stool looking at the stuff saying; I gotta move that, I have to junk that, gotta find a place for that. Yup, I gotta do that."

My inspiration was: "Yea, I could eat lunch at 10:30".

Yea, well, you jinxed me. I've been stareing at the shelves that need to be moved, I almost pulled out the bar stool.

Hummm, happy hour. The casino's only 4 minutes from my house.
