The pic on bottom was the lead pic in the following story. Looks like one home designer finally got it right. Put the garage in the middle of the house. Make the garage the central focal point. You could make one hell of a man cave. Hope they put the kitchen and bedrooms as far away as possible.

No it's not a duplex. Not in my dream. One whole side could be my new dog house.

I first thought it was a duplex too!

Not whining but in 2008 I paid $400k for my house, which is a decent price for a 2400 sq ft house 35 minutes from Washington D.C and two blocks from the bay. Zillow is sucking my will to live these days. Zillow sent me an update again today. They can kiss my butt! According to them I have lost $63K in three years. At 2400 sq feet, maybe it will be tomorrow's McMansion and the value will pop back up when people are tired of buying the smaller houses this article discusses.

The garage, not the entrance, is the most prominent feature on most new homes around here.

Actually I've seen homes like that. The front of the house is 2/3rds garage. I don't really like the look. I like them on the side or maybe 1/3 the front. There are some around here with a 3 bay garage. I really, really like them. It's still not enough garage for me. I'd have to put a 3 bay carport in front of it.

I always wanted a house with the garage entrance on the side of the house with a winding driveway to the garage. I never had a piece of property that large. My garage now is always open to the neighbors prying eyes. Not that I give a crap too much but they are nosey.

My first thought was duplex, too. Weird. But homes should be getting smaller. I think my house is too big, but it is what it is. My old house that I lived in alone was about 900 sq feet and I loved that house. Easy to clean

Don - I've looked at that Zillow and it's full of crap. It might be an indication that prices dropped, but it's not accurate. The problem is all the comps are based on foreclosure sales which really messes with regular houses. If you think foreclosure sales are great in theory, you should take a closer look at the damage these people do before they leave...no respect anymore.

And I agree with Joe, I don't like seeing a huge garage as the prominent feature of the house....not like the old days when the garage was behind the house 100 feet. Oh well.

Problem is, you're in an association and they have lots of stupid rules. For $100-$150 a month I can hire people to do all the outdoor maintenace on my house.

I lived in one association in my life and absolutely hated it. No community living or boards for me. That's why I prefer older or rural homes.

You guys need to move to southwest Kansas. You can buy a pretty nice, 2400-3000 sq ft house with a big yard for penny's on the dollar compared to what you are talking. Even my wife says that we need a three bay garage...and with the lift I can mak it a four car....

BTW, I thought that first picture was a duplex, too.
