From a friend of mine in the Corvette Club... What do you C5 ODBII guys recommend for him? See his question below.
"Guys, Im looking to buy a code scanner to be able to troubleshoot and fix DTCs. Ive seen a few OBD II CAN compatible units on eBay and they run from $98.00 to $160.00. Do you have any recommendations on which unit to purchase?" |

This is the one I have:
http://www.autobarn.net/actron-obd-scanner-cp9180.html Probably more than what most people need, even me. But it runs state emissions tests if you have those so it's nice. It can monitor O2 sensor data and do freeze frames. I can't comment on other ones, I haven't used them. Matthew |

i use a monitor 4000. it has quite a bit of stuff. one of my many tools from when i was wrenching for a living. does what i need to do.

I have the least expensive Autoxray, works fine. Doesn't doo all the things that Matt's does but, you get a code, find it on the web & fix the problem.
Mine will reset the SES but that also clears the emmission monitors which take some days of driving the car to reset them for a smog check. It does what I need. |

I have the AutoXray 6000, you know, I haven't had to use it on the C5 yet....I'm sure my time is coming though.

Was he looking for just a code reader or for a scan tool with some data? You can pull & clear trouble Codes through the instrument cluster on all modules, no tools needed.. but for data a scan tool would be needed..
