Howdy! The cement pond is gonna be plumb froze over by tomorrow. It's a balmy 23 now, should start nosediving to about 4 by tomorrow morning. I think I'm gonna learn to hibernate.

Keep warm, gurus!

Human hibernation. I have to start working on that project. Phase 1 - eat extra food to build up body fat to last the winter. Check. Phase 2 - Sleep until spring, working on that part.

Reminds me of a story. I had a French (subject) teacher, Mr Erba. Whenever we didn't want to do classwork we would bring up Japan. His response was the same as the Three Stooges Niagra Falls episode. He was a Bataan Death March survivor and hated the Japanese with a passion. He would literally froth at the mouth and spit as he went into a raging tirade about how much he hated the Japs. Understadably so. Anybody that goes through that kind of shit in their lifetime will never make peace with their opressors. He was a really good guy. We just knew how to push his buttons. He's not the only one I know that went through stuff. He's just the one I remember with his passion for retribution.

Yeah, I imagine it shouldn't be any different - maybe it stems from how it ended, how our soldiers were treated when they came home, etc.

I never did get why people took it out on the poor grunts who lived and died in that hell hole......It was not so bad out here on the plains as it was in other places.

When me and my buddy who was just back from Nam took our Easy Rider Summer of Love Harley epic ride, we found a lot of folks mad at the Govt. but appreciated his service. That was all out west though.

Was it media driven?

In Boston all veterans are treated with honor and respect. Probably because it's rich in history and serving was a time honored tradition. I know plenty of guys that got waivers for education, pscychological issues, physical issues or sexual preference. Some took a trip to Canada. I never berated anyone. My father served, his father served, and his father served. We have a history of military service that dates back to the Civil War. My son broke the chain, the result of a plate in his wrist. He even had it removed in an attempt to join the Air Force but was denied.
It's tough to serve today. Iraq and Afganistan are two wars that few understand. All I can say is to those that served Thank you for your service.

A few of my high school and college friends took off to Canada, some donned dresses or faked aliments to get out of serving in Vietnam. I never thought anything less of their choice but they never had the right to judge me for what I did. When I look back on those two tours it seems like such a waste of lives, young lives that had so much potiential so much life. Those of us that got through it still bare the emotional scars of war and taking human life. Now I read that 274 service men remains from Dover AFB were disgarded in a landfill. So much for honoring our dead.
