Am rebuilding my 93 LT1 engine. Hot cam, new heads (trick flow), bored 30 over. Planning to rev no higher than 6200, opened up the mains and rods to 20 to 25 thou. a stock oil pump should be fine right? Any thoughts?

Yep. Stock will handle it just fine.

Standard volume oil pump will be fine.
Be sure of which pump body you get - Do not buy a Melling M55 without looking at the casting. The Melling Select 57710553 and Milodon 18755 are both good heavy duty castings. Will |

I bought a M55 should I just take it back or what should I look for in the casting?

Why use a cam that makes it's power outside the range you're willing to rev to? Why build a new bottom end to a 6200 rpm target that a worn out stock bottom end can handle all day long? Why use a cam that, 10 years ago, was old tech that was being beaten across the board by other cams? Sorry if you've already answered these, I don't follow this board closely... |

Lightweight casting on the left. You DO NOT want the lightweight one, they tend to crack and will trash your motor.
Also incase you didn't know. All the std volume pumps come with a 5/8" inlet, but the stock LTX pump uses a 3/4" inlet - You will need to buy a new pickup tube. Melling PN 55-S3 is what you need. Will |

The 3/4" pick up is the M155. Does this one have the same casting problem? |

Yes - some of the M155's had the lightweight casting as well.
Just look at the bolt pad on whatever you have and compare to the pic. Will |

At what point is a high volume needed? I will never need the highest end billet but do plan a supercharged 600rwhp setup

It all depends on demand on the oiling system. Stuff like External coolers, loose brg clearances, piston squirters and spring oilers. Sometimes one of those is enough to require a HV pump - but everything about a racing engine is application specific. Will |
