welcome!

sounds like one bad ass Vette, dude! Picking up over 100hp is huge!

How is the drive? Changes in MPG worth noting? It must be FAST!

I just hope you don't have to put that thing on a smog tester... a lack of cats will cause a minor problem there... just say'n.

Very impressive. For those who didn't see the video - baseline 411/357 to modded 523/441. Nice numbers for exhaust, top end/cam, and tune.

I'd love to go for a ride if you'd like to bring it by my place some time!

Welcome!

Wow Nice! Like Matt said, would love to see it some time in person... Since the corvette season has started here, we'll probably be planning another Corvette dinner event someplace in the Chicago suburbs.. Check the Central region section of the forum...

I received a message on another forum. Can anyone verify it. He stated comps stats for my cam are based on 1.7 rockers: your cam lift is really 0.657/0.660 if you used 1.8 ratio LS7 based rockers. Those LSL lobes are advertised as 0.621/.624 lift based on standard LS 1.7 ratio rockers. Does this change my 113 lsa too.

LSA - Lobe Separation Angle - is fixed to the way the cam was cast. I don't know how a rocker could change that. Rockers will change lift, but it's an enhancement due to the ratio. To get the ultimate lift, use the base number x the ratio... To get to the base, current lift / ratio...

Sooo...
(.621 / 1.7) = .365
(.365 * 1.8) = .658 (.6575)
- and -
(.624 / 1.7) = .367
(.367 * 1.8) = .661 (.6607)

I rounded up...

As for cats, I see your point, but I have a slightly different approach...

one, the modern high flow units don't cost much power, maybe 10 horses, total.

The reason for all the regulation is because corporations and people have a tendency to NOT do the right thing, so to speak. If you put cats on, it won't kill performance - and you can always put them on a quick change setup for track use, too - and it won't set off the EPA.

This is how it happens... if a region starts to show increases in certain pollutants, they start to press the local government - more accurately, hold them hostage over federal highway dollars - for more testing.

In the big mess of a city called Philadelphia, PA, they had the last segment of I-95 that wasn't complete. A 3 mile shot past the Philly airport. Going north, Interstate ended, and you had to stop at a light, make a left, use this dinky 4-lane highway past the airport, and/or into the airport, then up and around back onto the freeway to get over the bridge into Philly. It was an absolute cluster of cars, traffic lights and smells. A real mess.

Well, the city said they need the $$ to finish the segment... the EPA said, not until you lower your emissions... Philly said, we can't unless we get this fixed!!! After several years of sniping, the Feds saw the light, gave up the several hundred million and they finished that segment. And the pollutants went down to acceptable levels. Interesting, eh?

God forbid you ever drove that car into CA... There are temporary infrared smog stations on some freeway on-ramps looking for cars that pollute, and guess what - being out of state won't protect you. Same in other parts of the country that follow CA smog laws.

If they pull you over for speeding, and then check for cats or what not, oopsie... The ticket will hurt big time. Oh, being out of state means it's only a fine, but if you were here, they would mandate a trip to the referee and return the vehicle to a stock configuration! They are anal out here... But the LA basin does suck for holding in stinky shit.

Oh, and get this, if a professional shop did these mods? They are liable to the EPA for upwards of $25k in fines. They ain't kidding. And yes, I find it draconian and invasive... that's why whenever I suggest a performance package, I try to suggest doing it under the radar so that the damned fun police don't ruin the party. We don't need all those people putting their fingers in our pie, and if putting on a couple of high-flow cats does it, I am all for it!

I will say this... LA is a pollution nightmare. There are mountains to the north, east and south. On the west, this big wall of air caused by the cold Pacific - an inversion layer. That wall of air keeps my area of Los Angeles real clean and nice, but inland? In the San Fernando or San Gabriel Valley's... not so much. They are kept stuck in that mess - until the Santa Ana Winds blow it all to my area. Drive over the Sepulveda Pass (north of LAX and I-10, just south of the 101 freeway), and you can see the haze settling. My mother-in-law grew up near the USC campus and she remembers as a teen, walking to the bus, her lungs would be burning from whatever was in the air - this was 1965-70 time frame.

Just sharing and informing. I am all for performance, but I do like my air clean. too. And there are happy mediums.

As I said, if you are tracking the car, a quick change for track day, and then swap back for the rest of the week. Would also quite some of that boom inside the car. Something to think about.

Nice ride.
We had the visual, dyno, sniffer, here in Chicagoland until a few years ago. Various explanations as to why it was discontinued.
Hope it doesn't come back.

It's interesting, Flyboy, but they had them in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale metro area, too, but stopped it.

Florida has no inspection AT ALL. Stopped it some 30 years ago, but they had a pollution problem in the Miami area, so they had limited smog tests... lasted 4 years or so. Then apparently the trade winds shifted and now the Bahama's are the lucky winner.

I am hoping to get rid of Pelosi, too... she is gone way off the reservation, but she is also San Fran area... they are damned near socialists up there.

As much as I hate the way they do the smog laws, I fully understand the why...
