I was reading an article this morning about older guys buying their dream cars they either sold or wished they owned back in the 50's 60's and 70's. How boomer desires are driving the prices of cars from that era. This is not new news but it was an interesting read anyway. It brought me to think about car owners and their "Pride and Joy" rides. I was driving into town the other day and I saw a locals' 1969 Dodge Daytona. I used to see that car all the time but I hadn't seen it for years. The guy driving it was the same guy that was driving it 25 years ago. He's a lot older and grayer now. Whenever I see a C2, the guy behind the wheel more often than not is into his sixties. I see muscle Camaro's and SS's, GTO's and hot rods, and a few throw backs that are pre 40's. Most of the time the driver is male and over 50. Even C4's. Many of their owners are older guys. As I'm cruising, looking around checking out other guys cars, I often say to myself; Look at the old fart driving that car. Good thing there are no mirrors pointing at me as I'm driving or I'd have to say; Look, there's another one.

So .... with that, I'm gonna shower, get dressed and take the 90 for a ride. I ain't getting any younger.

Side note ....... The rat is dead. Later I'm sealing up the patio and wire screening any potential access points. I hate f'n rats. I see some more of the little bastards lurking at properties edge in the natural areas. They're waiting, surveying, schemeing and plotting. I have to keep them at bay. I'd love to lay out poison baits but the piggies might snoot their way into one. That would not be good.

Good Morning CGs!

Tommy, it is interesting about cars that way. My first car was a 1988 Chevy Blazer, 2 door, 5 spd 2.8 liter 4x4. Nothing special in the least bit. But my first car. I'd love to get an early 90s S10 4.3 4D 4x4 with all the options to drive around. It would have to be in mint condition, though. Nearly impossible to find. They were never rare or desirable and they were 4x4s...so they rust out, people put plows on them, etc. My wife doesn't understand why I like them

Rugrat #1 was a terror last night going to bed. I laid in bed early and watched tv for about a half an hour, I was beat. Would have fallen asleep early but #1 was in the room every 5 minutes with some other stupid reason she couldn't go to bed. Finally came in our bed to fall asleep. Oh well. I had to sleep with a cold damp washcloth over my eyes to help with the discomfort from allergies. Tried my third medicine yesterday, zyrtec. Used to work well for me years ago, worked ok yesterday. I'll give it a couple days to kick in, I guess.

Landscapers are supposed to show up today and work, hope they do. I have 4 tons of rock on the driveway.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Buttercup: We'll never succeed. We may as well die here.
Westley: No, no. We have already succeeded. I mean, what are the three terrors of the Fire Swamp? One, the flame spurt - no problem. There's a popping sound preceding each; we can avoid that. Two, the lightning sand, which you were clever enough to discover what that looks like, so in the future we can avoid that too.
Buttercup: Westley, what about the R.O.U.S.'s?
Westley: Rodents Of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist.
[Immediately, an R.O.U.S. attacks him]

Beautiful morning here...we have all the windows open and the cool air is flowing in.....nice! Who is going to take care of all these cars when the old men are gone? The kids now days don't seem all that interested.

I often think about why I like cars so much and the car crazy era I grew up in. The 50's and 60's were prosperous times overall with the post WWII boom going strong. Folks could afford a home and a nice car and maybe even a color TV. The Big 3 car companies were fighting to bring us more glitz and glam and horsepower every year. When a neighbor got a new car the whole hood would gravitate over to kick the tires and check out the HP of that big V8 engine. Same with the color TV's, everyone would come over to see the NBC Peacock unfurl in living color. Advertising in the media was aimed right at us and we ate up the ads and what they were telling us.

I learned that having a cool car was a prestiege thing and as I have said before you could be a fat dork with zits but you were not to be messed with if you had a set of wheels worthy of honor. Plus a torque laden big inch car that could lay rubber in all four gears was a blast to drive and that is what has kept me in it for all these years.

I would still like to have a 65 Goat with 3 dueces and a Hurst shifted 4 speed, along with a C2 of course.......

My back is a lot better today.....took a hot shower and stretched and then went down and had an adjustment made. Everything seemed to pop back in place so I am a little sore today but the big pain is gone......Good Guru advice and lets not forget the back mojo helped a lot.....

Gotta go....

Hellmann's Mayonnaise - a bit of history.
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered into Mexico. But as we know the great ship never made New York.

The folks in Mexico, who were just discovering mayonnaise and were eagerly awaiting the shipment were very dissapointed and saddened that the ship and its shipment was lost. They set this day aside to honor that loss on the 5th of May which to this day is know as Sinko De Mayo Day...........

What...??? You expected something educational from me.....

How bad do you want it ? There is a '66 for sale just down the street from me. Fully restored, burgundy, 389 with 3 deuces. Very nice, haven't a clue on the price.

Alas....I find myself lucky to be able to have the toys I have and help my kids through college.....maybe someday though. Its funny but of the early GTO's the 65 was my favorite and the 67 but I did not like the 68's on up as well. Kinda like the 64 C2's were not sought out as much as the others until things got tight.

I am thinking low 40's on that 66 if it is documented in anyway.....

Greetings! Looks like a cloudy day ahead, hope the rain holds off until tonight as I have some outdoor chores to knock off my list. Sinko De Mayo? You must be feeling better, Marcus ;-)

Looks like we're gonna have our kitchen cabinets re-faced, took the plunge last night. We're also taking some cabinets down that hang over the peninsula, so that will make quite a dramatic change. And with my wallet so much lighter, it should make it easier to get in and out of the Vette.

Enjoy your weekend, Gurus!

I watch those Mecum auctions, and the guys buying those cars are all in there 50's and 60's (and up). Most kids today have no understanding of the muscle car era.

Matt, it's funny you post the message about the S10's, as I was laying there in bed this morning, deciding whether or not to sleep a little longer, I was thinking about my old S10 Blazers. I bought my first one from my BIL when they moved from Pueblo CO back to KC. A 2 door 89 4x4 2.8. It was a fun car to drive. I liked it so much I traded it for a 93 4 door LT model with the 4.3 with everything. I really liked that one. I wouldn't mind finding one of those either in decent condition. You can tell your wife that I understand.

I took the C5 out late on a very warm almost summer night. I did not take the top off because of time but did roll down the windows and turned up the CCR disc. I ran it up to 90 on the 80 with the windows down and it reminded me of summer nights going fast in my 65 Roadster with the top down all those years ago.......it was a smile maker.....

I think about that once in a while, always good for a laugh.

A guy from the Bay Area that I used to work with stops by once a year. Every time I see him, he says "One of these days I'm going to get a Porsche."...........he's been saying that for 25 years.

The race shop I worked in was MLC Motorsports (Mid Life Crisis). The owner didn't have any toys until he retired.

Selling a $2,000 car in the 70's wouldn't have made a difference in your life.

Hehe.

What do you call 4 Mexicans in a boat with a hole in it?

Quatro Sinko.

House payment on a $10K loan - $70/month, $840/year
House payment on a $ 8k loan - $55/month, $660

A decent car for your wife to haul the kid in -$1,000, $20/month

Annual combined family income about $6K. That's 6K from him and she was a housewife. No need for housekeepers, daycare centers or a million restaurants. Dry cleaners got your suit, everything else was washed, starched and pressed at home (unless you were rich) No A/C, computers or pampers, 6 TV stations, AM radio, Sunday was church and family day. The President was "The Man". There were virtues like respect, honor and loyalty. No microwave ovens. The meals were made fresh. Steak was a luxury. People mended their clothess and resoled and heeled their shoes. Supermarkets closed at 09:00 PM, The general population worked 9:00 to 05:00 with many operations closed on Saturday and most on Sunday. Holidays meant parades, celebrations and more family gatherings. Children feared their parents and parents were not their childrens best friends. They loved their kids(in most cases) but the kids toed the line. Sure their were exceptions. That's before all these sensitive laws were passed and we grew into a nation of pussies.

I have told this before but in 62 my folks had a new ranch style house built with a walk out basement....3000 square combined I'm thinkiing. Cost with carpet and drapes and 2 ton window air was 15,000......The banker asked my Dad if he was sure he could swing it and my Dad was like....yeah, I'm making 7500 a year.

Mom stayed home did all housework and meals. Two loaded carts at the grocery store was 60 bucks......Our new 64 Dodge Polara 500 was like 75 bucks a month payment. My Dad sold some cattle that he had after his Dad passed away and made $3000 which was so huge he drove us all out to Disneyland from Kansas.......

Good stuff Tommy...all very true....

Good evening you Guru Rats!!!

I got back a while ago from our Autocross Day 1 - We always present a newcomers class on Saturday before the Sunday events and let them drive the course until we get tired of watching. We got a whole new crew of young people pouring into the Saturday clinics with Mazda 3, 350z, and the likes. These kids are in their mid to late 20s young professionals - computer geeks I think. A good group today. One youngish girl whooped her boyfriend in the same Mazda 3. He was pretty sad that she had bigger balls than him. I drove my Corvette today on the course and really wish I had driven the MX-5. On this tight course the Corvette drove like a pig. Understeer badly where I didn't want it to and then of course oversteer bad when I came out of corners with too much juice. I'll be driving the Mazda tomorrow for official runs for sure. The Corvette feels so big and heavy after driving the MX-5 in the past three autocross events. Kind of disappointing as I wanted the Corvette to be an autocross car.
