Replaced my saw-blades, and would like to clean the inside of the
wheels with little, or no effort. Not trying to make them new, just want to be able to handle them without the grime transferring to hands and clothes. Tried Simple Green Degreaser with little success. How about the the do-it-yourself car wash where suds are sprayed under pressure. Will that work? Well, first off I like the Cray wheels. Now, I really surprised that SG didn't do more than that. I use Chemical Guys Wheel and rim cleaner which I like a lot.

Brake Clean and very fine steel wool and they will look like new again.

there is this stuff that JrRifleCoach suggested... it's this all purpose cleaner you can get at like the dollar store, I just can't remember the name.
Cleans anything... |

I always like these stock C4 wheels....I had these chromed at California Chrome and they did a great job....

I've had pretty good luck with Eagle-1 wheel cleaner - I've done the backsides of my wheels a couple of times with it, and they cleaned up pretty well.

Try Maguiar's wheel cleaner. It seems pretty stout.
Chemical bros are near me, if you feel you want some, I can get it and just mail it... Also, with that old baked on stuff, you may need to rub it off... and the above steel wool idea might be the ticket. Oh, and yes, the Cray's are HOT!!! |

I'd be worried about leaving anything on there too harsh that could stain or damage the clearcoat.
If the grime won't come off with scrubbing and simple green, how does it come off on your hands? I guess I'd try and clean up the barrel at least, but nothing else is even remotely visible except to roadkill. For that I've used wd40 and synthetic steel wool. Clean it standing upright so the goo doesn't stain the good side of the wheel. The clearcoat is pitted and stained in there from brake dust, so you aren't cleaning it, you are simply left with removing the clear until you get down to an unstained part. |

Does brake cleaner dissolve it enough to wash it away?
Most degreasers are water based, and worthless for agressive stuff. They are basically stinky hand soap. If brake cleaner doesn't phase it,my next step would be carb cleaner, the type in the bottle. If that doesn't work then you need to get crazy... try some paint stripper/remover or graffiti remover from your local hardware store. This stuff can be very harsh so wear hand protection. You say they have no clearcoat, but the fronts surely still do (I know this because I had to use this stuff and lots of labor to remove mine. |
