GMCG's

No sun here, just a drippy gray overhead mass. I'm awake but not quite functional. A new day has begun.

My life is far from a giant ball of sh!t. Jamaicans were telling us on our visit there, "No problem". "There are no problems in Jamaica, only situations." A wise old saying heard in the rooms of AA, "How do you eat an elephant?" Answer: "One bite at a time".
This talk of eating is making me hungry. Let's see what I can throw together.

I'm up, bathed, had my breakfast, into the coffee - sun is out here and it's supposed to be a beautiful day. My head feels funky like I'm trying to get sick. Thinking it's an allery thing and figures I'm out of the Walgreens Claritin. If Doris shows up, we're headed to that house with the mower (for her) and me to load up a truckload of plans and come back here to get in the ground. Tuesday here will be a high of 45 with rain, low in the 20s. Monday I'm due at a place called DNW they sell trucking accessories, hunting stuff, etc for some freelance graphic work. Somewhere in there I need to blow the leaves all up in a pile and set them on fire.

Buenos dias! The sun is making an appearance, and the wind is down to a manageable 5-10mph - much better than yesterday's 25-35. So I'd guess I'd better pick up some more leaves while opportunity knocks. Monday and Tuesday the highs will be in the 20's, so you can bet your sweet bippy I won't be out there then. Maybe if I get a burst of ambition later, I'll take that hammer drill for a test run.

Have a good day, yawlz!

Neither, I knew Jere from the track, been in his shop a few times. The Dodge was when Dave and Grumpy went their separate ways and when grumpy started driving the Camaros, etc.

They were in York (where I was born), I was in Chambersburg about 55 miles west.

Our team had 3 cars, a '60 Pontiac (national record holder in C-Stock running 12.5 seconds which is wild for a heavy old Pontiac. But, Dick Hill, the owner was getting GM parts "out the back door" (when GM put a moratorium on racing but still sneaked parts to racers). The other 2 cars were a '59 Corvette (street car but still ran all the races) and a Willys Gasser with a 288 Chev, Hillborn injection, etc.

I was 14 when I started on the crew.

The Willys was my favorite, looked like this:

I had some friends over for pizza and copious amounts of wine & beer. Gary and his wife Shirley were there (Gary has the paint booth at his house). Shirley made the announcement that she plans to drive Gary's 65 Mustang on the race track next summer.
The pizza and wine were good.

Watchin' the color drain from Gary's face was....priceless.

I enjoyed watching the drivers steering adjustments. That's one (of many) major faults I have. I'm hard wired for fluid steering adjustments and braking. That means I often brake early and easy instead of hard and late. Old habits die hard. Ah, what does it cost .... a second or two? ;)

Well, in that vid, he's pushing the car pretty hard. The steering adjustments are because of narrow (by today's standards) front tires and a boatload of horsepower on corner exit. The car does handle well for that vintage.

Fluid steering input is actually what you want (smooth is fast)on corner entry (watch his hands). At corner exit, corrections must be done with very quick steering input to control a push or oversteer (this is one of the things that takes a while to learn).

Yea, braking early can cost you a lot of time.

NOBODY in their street cars (on the big tracks) uses their brakes correctly, even the "advanced" drivers. It's one of the two major things I work on with advanced drivers and race drivers.
With the advanced drivers, I use "Off the Brakes" more than I use "Brake.....Brake........Harder."

I just joined the "Fiberglass and Bodywork Sucks.com" forum.

I'm playin' doorjam-alam-adingdong with fiberglass.

And I got to try the GM Assembly Line method of "reefing" the doors. You grab the top of the door with 2 hands, put your knee in the middle of the fiberglass door skin and yank back hard while driving your knee forward.

Also, using the "Chip Foose Two by Four" method of door adjustment, a 2x4 in between the door and the jam with a football block into the door.

Sunday should be Funday but...............

We use that 2x4 trick on our pickup truck doors when they get all out of whack.....works good....my grandpa said it worked for breaking horses also...just to get the horses attention now and then......

Just told the doors to....Jam It.

Had the doors on and off 6 times just today.

3 fiberglass buildups on the door gaps

you can't sand the bottom front of the door or door jam without taking the doors off.

Every time you put the doors back on, you have to realign them and find the hinge shims that fell out.

This done without weatherstrip and the weatherstrip will change things.

May have to start playing with bodyshims to adjust the gaps (really, really not fun).

But progress is progress.

Bill, I'm glad you know how to do as many things as you do. If it were me doing it,in the end, I'd have a 50 footer. Maybe even a 100 footer. Hell, the doors might not even have opened and I would have to climb through the window. Even then it would probably just be a roller.

Evening guys.....it's been a long day. Worked on the counter tops at school til about noon. Came home and got stuff together and picked up my SIL and a friend to help. Drove over to the city and got the tops installed and the crown molding up. All there is left are two doors and a little touch up. Those guys did wonders, saved Rosie and I a ton of work. Wrote a check to my SIL and the other guy wouldn't take a penny, said he would tear up a check. Says he owed me a lot more than that (he's the one I helped move a while back). I can say, I feel way better tonight having all that work done. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Bill, I'm thinking maybe there is light at the end of your Corvette tunnel too. You continue to progress as well.

Too bad you didn't get to see the NHRA finals, thought I saw you on TV in the beginning of the show.

Bill, I'm glad you know how to do as many things as you do. If it were me doing it,in the end, I'd have a 50 footer. Maybe even a 100 footer. Hell, the doors might not even have opened and I would have to climb through the window. Even then it would probably just be a roller.

You'd do better than this 50 footer.

Would have loved to have been there, Bill. I was in my own form of finals.

Shawn Langdon (the Top Fuel Champion) went back to his highschool to thank his Industrial Arts teacher for his championship. The teacher still had 2 Top Fuel posters up on the wall.

And he looked a lot like you.

All shop teachers look alike. Guess maybe I need to see if I can find a recording of that.
