Good morning gang.

We're feeling the affects of that winter blast today. Should be partly cloudy and highs in the upper 20's.

Word of the Day Friday, November 14, 2014

slubber \ SLUHB-er \, verb;

1. to perform hastily or carelessly.

Origin:

Slubber may descend from the Low German term slubbern meaning "to do work carelessly." When slubber entered English in the early to mid-1500s, it meant "to stain or smear."

Today is NATIONAL SPICY GUACAMOLE DAY

Each year on November 14, it is National Spicy Guacamole Day. Call your friends, get the chips ready and celebrate with a bowl of spicy guacamole dip.

Originating with the Aztecs in Mexico, guacamole is an avocado-based sauce which has become popular in American cuisine as a dip, condiment and salad ingredient.

Guacamole is made by using a mortar and pestle to mash ripe avocados and then mixing in sea salt. Sometimes tomatoes, onion, garlic, lemon juice, chili, yogurt or other seasonings are added. To take the guacamole into the “spicy category” jalapeno’s, chili’s, cumin or red pepper have been added to the recipe.

Due to Super Bowl Sunday and Cinco de Mayo, guacamole has pushed avocado sales to 30 million pounds on those two days each year.

To celebrate National Spicy Guacamole Day, try one of the following “tried and true” Spicy Guacamole recipes:

NATIONAL SPICY GUACAMOLE DAY HISTORY

Our research was unable to find the creator of National Spicy Guacamole Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL PICKLE DAY

It may be a Dill, Gherkin, Cornichon, Brined, Kosher Dill, Polish, Hungarian, Lime, Bread and Butter, Swedish and Danish, or Kool-Aid Pickles, whichever is your choice, eat them all day long as you celebrate National Pickle Day.

The term pickle comes from the Dutch work pekel, meaning brine. In the United States, the word pickle typically refers to a pickled cucumber.

– Pickles are a great snack, low in calories and a good source of vitamin K.

– Sometimes served on a stick at festivals, fairs or carnivals, pickles are sometimes known as “stick pickles”.

– A rising trend in the United States is a deep-fried pickles which have a breading or batter surrounding the pickle spear or slice.

– For thousands of years pickles have been a popular food dating back to 2030 B.C. At that time, cucumbers were imported from India to the Tigris Valley where they were first preserved and eaten as pickles.

– Cleopatra’s full diet of pickles is what she attributed her good looks to.

– Julius Caesar fed pickles to their troops believing that they lent physical and spiritual strength.

– Each year in the United States, 5,200,000 pounds of pickles are consumed.

HAPPY NATIONAL PICKLE DAY!

NATIONAL PICKLE DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Pickle Day, an “unofficial” national holiday. The first annual pickle day was celebrated in New York City in 2001.

Good Morning CGs!

Cold. We had light flurries for much of the day yesterday, but no accumulation. I don't know what the weather is expected to be other than....cold.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning, all!

Light snow last night in the Philadelphia area, along with a temperature drop into the high 20s.

Thankfully, my contractor got the big gang dormer on the second floor closed up before the rain and snow began. They're back already this morning: bang, bang, bang, ... bang-bang!

Morning guys...cold here, but nearly as cold as yesterday morning. It's a virtual heat wave at 18. We MIGHT get above freezing today, but a big winter storm is brewing and we might get snow and wind...what a great combination! On the other hand, we probably will get missed, as snow does count as moisture.....

Marcus, we put the fuzzy sheets and e-blanket on last weekend in anticipation of this cold weather.

Greetings! Busy day here again, but at least I won't be stuck in an all-day meeting. Counting the minutes until nap-time. Hope Tommy remembers to pack his Speedo.

Enjoy your Friday, Gurus!

Tick-tock, tick-tock .......... Well, my bags are packed. I'm ready to go ........ Woooooooooooooooooooooot .....................Wooooooooooooooooooooot. Finishing up on last minute stuff. In pretty good shape overall. I'll start decompressing as soon as the safety briefing is over after we leave port. Once that's over it's all fun and games. You guys that have never been on a cruise should give it a try sometime. I'll teach you the ropes on booking. Online Vacation Center @ onlinevacationcenter.com and Vacations To Go at vacationstogo.com are two great places to start. When the cold clammy winds drift down from the north ........ bbrrrrrrr. The Carribean offers much milder temps.
