I was wondering this. I read that sometimes injectors tick. I think mine are ticking. I tried using a piece of tubing to locate the ticking but the sound hurts my ears being that close with a tube in my ear. Would my stock injectors be prone to ticking?

What about the Ford SVO injectors? I heard they are good....Why do injectors tick? Is it a sign of failure?

Thanks...

It helps if they aren't bottommed out in the rail or base. The clips help prevent this.

Do you have the stock intake base and injectors? Have they or the fuel rail ever been removed?

Everything is stock to my knowledge. I had a intake manifold gasket replaced awhile back...I also had my heads checked because I thought it was either that or a blown head gasket but they were ticking before then so I don't know beyond that...At first I thought it was a lifter or something, because our old jeep had a ticking sound and another mechanic said it was a bad lifter...My oil is changed regularly so... It's just really annoying.

I replaced mine with new Ford pink injectors not too long ago and they tick pretty loud. Heard this is just normal. Car runs great.

An injector is a solenoid. Just like the solenoid in your starter. When the ECM energizes the injector the coil of wire along with it's movable ferris core becomes an electromagnet, and pulls the core out of it's at rest position. That ferris core is the pintle. It is opened as described by the ECM and allowed to seat under spring pressure when the coil is de-energized. Noise is a natural byproduct of the pintle seating.

An amazing and versatile device, the solenoid. Wait until the camshaft is replaced by solenoids, one for each valve. You will be able adjust your duration, lobe centers, overlap, etc, by programming with your laptop. You will be able to have short duration for strong low rpm torque, gradually blend into a wild, long duration, grind for all out top end power. It will be the ultimate variable valve timing device.

Not that I am aware of, but it certainly could be.

Electric/Electronic valves on a production car? Not that I am aware of.

Ford and Renault have been working on them, but they haven't reached production... hell, they aren't even close as of last read. I would also suspect Ferrari to be working on it, too.

F1 is where we would see cam-less engines first... if we ever do. A couple of years ago, before the FIA closed development on F1 engines, Renault was working on a cam-less engine, and the rumours had it spinning upwards of 25k RPM.

Considering that the cammed, but pneumatically controlled valves used in F1 currently will allow the smaller 2.4L V8s spin over 20k RPM (ungoverned), I would expect a cam-less engine to spin higher. Either way, it's sick.

Have you ever thought of going farther with that idea? See if it is invented or patented yet, and if not, pursue it yourself? It is a great idea. Sure would take the stress off of having the "perfect" intake runner length and "perfect" head size for the engine and the engine's practical uses. I could tow a camper, then change "modes" and run a drag race.

the R&D behind this has been mind boggling. The #1 reason the automakers are pursueing it is for savings... no more starters are needed. They can start the engine by firing off one plug and let the rest follow.

I only WISH I could take credit for the idea. It may take a while, but you'll see it. The concept has been around for ages. I also have a mental picture for a desmodromic valve system. Born 30 years too late.

There is more than just cost savings involved. Think of the fuel mileage of an engine that is constantly running in it's most efficient, "sweet spot". With a "cam" timed for the conditions, the emissions could be incredibly low, also.

[quote]And here, I was only thinking of more power. What is wrong with me? :tard]Me too! And the potential for great power is there, but if you are going to get the automotive manufacturing giants of their dead and dying... to develop something, there had better be a bigger motivation than a bunch of hot rodders. Something like the EPA???

I know this is getting way off the topic of the thread, but not a day goes by that I don't think of how long our earth's oil supply can last. Look at the trucks and cars and equipment running in 1 town or on 1 interstate, then think of the size of the earth. It is amazing we haven't already ran out. Anything to save gas on a large scale would be good. Alternative fuels are a must for our generation. My company mandates that I drive a 3/4 ton truck, then they reimburse me for it and for my fuel. It makes me sick that 1/2 the time I could drive something and get 30mpg, but they make me run my truck and get 13. I drive nearly 60,000 miles a year on average. It makes me sick thinking of all the gas I waste because they won't reimburse me unless I run the vehicle they want me to run. I know there are many days I need the truck but on the days I don't it is such a waste!
