Well, it finally happened. My antenna would go up only half way and that was ok as reception was ok at half way up, but then it started going up 1/4 way and now it doesn't go up at all.
I probably need to replace it. Dread the job though. Has anyone done this? I don't see how to get to the thing. Billy |

I did this about a month ago. The used one I bought from a forum member is working great. The job wasn't really that hard @ all. I just printed out the directions I found on this forum or forum X ( I forget which one ) and I used a Chilton's and factory service Manuel. I think it took a couple of hours, that's with me doing it, I'm slow and not anywheres near a mechanic. I did have to grab my 13 y/o son and his small hands to help me run some of the wires. if you have any questions just let me know ( as I just did it ).
Good-luck , Patsfan |

Hardest part is reaching that plastic nut from underneath. You will probably need a 2nd person up top, for reattaching it if nothing else. I don't recall doing any work from inside the car.
I also had a helluva time finding which replacement antenna to use on my 85, there are so many variations over a few year span and I think some of the catalogs are wrong. Mine had a Harada MX-22, which is used on many applications, and available cheap, but there's some corvette specific stuff on it. |

The hardest problem I had was reinstalling the rubber grommet, there is no room under there to get the leverage you need to plug it back in again. Finally I just put some lithium grease around it and that helped to get it in again.

What does a new mast cost? When I paint my car, I might just put a new one in, instead of putting hte old one back in.
