I just finished up my brake project....well, sort of. I got everything put together and bled the brakes, went out for a test drive and got a nasty constant screech from the passenger side. Damn rattle clip! Doesn't want to stay seated. It will have to wait for another day. Its starting to rain here...

Did you buy a kit or did you piece it together yourself?

I saw on another forum where a guy had ordered all the parts separately from different places(each place = best price) and did the whole thing for around $400.00 U.S.

He ended up with essentially the same parts as the kits...be darned if I can remember which forum though...I ask because that is on my hunny dew list for my Black Beauty this month...

OK, I got a set of new C5 Front Calipers, Pads and Brackets for a reasonable price, $190 from a member , FLYLOW in the C5 section of CF

RockAuto has Rotors for $21.00 each, with shipping = $54 total.

Looks like the Bolts are Grade 8,,,,14mm X 2mm X 47mm long and cost @ $2.00 each. I already have new SS braided lines

Made my own brackets or you can buy them

LD - you stole those calipers, pads, and brackets for $190!

I also pieced my own system together. I bought some used calipers from a low milegage wreck, got the brackets with them. My corvette mechanic buddy gave me some barely used take off rotors and pads from and old customer for free. Bought Jeffvette's adapter brackets (a little more difficult to make on my own since I have an 89). I kept my stock brake lines. Painted the calipers and rotor hats and did a brake bleed and I was done. Overall, for around $300 I have a killer brake system 100 times better than my stock.

Matthew

ps- aqua - let me know if you want those rattle clips we discussed earlier.

Awesome...thanks guys....is there anything else I'll need?

Is there a picture and or measurements of the needed brackets?

This definitely sounds like the way to go...

Will they fit with the stock wheels from 96?

I gotta get some pics of my car...

Try contacting Jeffvette for the brackets, there are 84-87 brackets and 88-96 brackets.

I'm not sure about the wheel clearance. Some years don't clear the face of the caliper.

I've heard the A-molds will clear it but the later sawblades won't. I know I test fitted my sawblades from my 89 and it barely cleared it. My aftermarket C6 repros fit with no issues.

I have a picture of the brackets from cad that someone else did, but you'd need a machine shop to make them.

You'll also need the little stuff such as brake fluid, banjo bolts, slide lube, and a bleeder can make the job easier. Some people use speed bleeders (I don't).

BTW, why do you want the upgrade, from what I've read the 96's had good brakes already - better than earlier years?

I'm not real good at that...especially when you have to make the pictures tiny and all that...I have a hard time getting the pics from the phone or camera to the puter then to get them anywhere else is sheer torture...I tried getting some off a disk I made but it gave me a bunch of bs and I said screw it til another day...

You know, I can build these things really well, but I can hardly get to the net once their running...

I'll get it done...I promise

the one in the center hole of the caliper... hang em on your wall...those impede air flow thru caliper...never heard pads rattle on mine w/o the clip

Not to hi-jack the thread... my C6 brakes are going on this week... do you actually need the backing plates for the pads?

The backing plates are for noise...

in my opinion, no. In almost everyone else's, yes.

Oh I thought they were for people that turn their rotors too much or are too cheap to replace pads before the pistons fall out.
