Very cool.
Curious that he had to use a parachute to slow down to land. I wonder how much control he has to fly it in the direction he wants to go. |

Saw that one and another one about a guy who wants to make a chuteless landing with some kind of webbed suit. These guys like living on the edge. What a rush......

The chute wasn't to slow down, as he had exhausted his fuel supply and was already a glider at that point, descending and close to his PI (landing spot). 120mph in clean freefall is normal. He pulled the chute because he was around 3000' AGL at that point by my estimation from the terrain in the background. Pretty standard to deploy your main chute around 3000' so if it malfunctions you can get it straightened out or get your reserve out by 1500'(+/-). My personal habit was to pull as soon as cars started to look like cars. Right about 3k. That's for sport jumping anyway. Military jumps you pull at whatever pre-determined altitude was briefed, or it'll be your ass later. I gotta get me one of those! Maybe with some kind of hi-speed skates you could land without a chute. Or wipe-out and kill yourself. |

It seems like with some practice he could use the rockets to stall vertically at ground level and land on his feet. Although he might set the weeds on fire... |
