You shouldve bought him one of those $3500. Vettes. Then he would have had allot of incentive to fix it up on his own, and you wouldnt have minded "helping"

Fixing a Honda is better than having a damaged Vette or truck, dont let a teen drive either of them. Ill catch heat for that but they arent ready to drive something like those cars yet.

I had a red Z28 when I was 16 and got into way to much trouble with the law. My dad still has gray hair today from my early driving years. Don't do it....

Too many troubles that innocently pop up.

I have been driving a vette since I was 16 and I am still typing to you guys on here. My parents taught me responsibility. I didn't drink or do drugs and I got a vette. First sign of drug/alchol, my ass would have been beaten, grounded, car sold, and once I hit 18, I would be on the street trying to survive! Paid 9 Grand for my car and it just started becoming reliable. 3500 vette= SCARY!!!

Difference is your was a fixer upper right?

When I was a kid my first car was a Buick Skyhawk 4 door. And it got totaled cause someone pulled out in front of me on the highway. I T-boned them and well...it was a mess but no one got hurt bad besides a broken nose...not mine a girl I was trying to date. Anywho, its my opinion that first cars were meant to be totaled either by your fault or someone elses....its a cosmic thing, nothing we can do about it. So with that said, my kids first car is going to be a cheap 4 banger. When he or someone else wreaks it then he can get something nicer.

Man, you guys must have some rambunctious kids. My first car was a 71Firebird Poncho 350 w/auto. I never wrecked it or got in trouble with it. I was 16. My son had a Honda CRF230F dirt bike & wanted a truck to haul it in. I bought him a 71 C-20 350 4 speed. No problems there either. Not so much as a ticket. He was 16 when he got the truck. Raise them up right & they'll learn responsibility, not stupidity.

My longterm plan for my car is to give it to my son, probably as a wedding present or college graduation. You can't give a 400+ horsepower car to a kid and expect it to go well. I am not saying it couldn't but I would hate to be the idiot who gave my kid a car he hurt himself in because it was fast and he wasn't ready to have a fast car. I am not worried about the plastic two door Chevy it's the kid I care about.

Anybody got any HONDA repair manuals laying around?

What is wrong? these are very easy cars to work on.

don't get tied up with the "Honda" stigma. They are durable well engineered cars.

I really agree....there are many of us who have 150 to 200 thousand miles and still going strong.

My first car (truck) was an s-10 blazer 4x4 with a 2.8L V6. I got into enough trouble with that. I couldn't imagine what I would have done in a sports car.

No 16 year old driver needs a V8 sports car. Give him a beater honda civic or toyota corolla. Once he's got a few years under his belt, it's time to move up.
