So how's everybody in the Los Angeles area doing???

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/29/earthquake.ca/index.html

Quote:
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A magnitude-5.8 earthquake has struck just east of Los Angeles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Los Angeles was hit by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake Tuesday.

The quake's epicenter was about 2 miles southwest of Chino Hills and about 5 miles southeast of Diamond Bar, the USGS said. Chino Hills is about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

The center was about 7.6 miles deep. In general, earthquakes centered closer to the Earth's surface produce stronger shaking and can cause more damage than those further underground.

A 5.8 magnitude quake is considered by the USGS to be "moderate," which can cause slight damage to buildings and others structures. About 500 can happen globally each year, the survey says.

CNN's Ed Lavandera was at Disneyland with his family and felt the temblor. He said the shaking lasted about 5 seconds.

There were no immediate reports of injury or damage in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey told The Associated Press. San Bernardino County fire dispatch did not have reports of damage, AP said.

It rattled my office (I'm about 20 miles from Chino), it just rolled - nothing sharp.

Things are pretty normal right now.....

Downgraded to 5.4

I was driving. But it always feels like an earthquake to everyone within a few blocks when I drive past in the Vette.

Some people at the office felt it down here in San Diego. 5.4 is about the magnitude that might knock a few things off the shelf, but I'd be very surprised if there was any damage. Of course that won't stop the media from making a doom and gloom story about it on the 10oclock news. (A 6.4 is 10X stronger).

"Chino Hills college instructor Jesse Diaz said classes have been canceled at Mount San Antonio Community College, about a mile from the epicenter.

"We're right on top of it [the quake]," he said. "It was the worst earthquake I've felt since '86. You could just feel the ground shaking back and forth. I looked outside and the patio was just twisting."

Glad you guys are o.k. funny how a 6.4 is 10X stronger than a 5.4 The news makes everything doom and gloom. That's why I watch the smurfs season one on DVD nothing but lala la la lala la lalala la

I was in the bathroom, wifey was putting on her makeup & looked the the dark knight joker.......

It was a shaker out here in Hemet (45 mi SE from Chino) and lasted a good 30 seconds.

What was hilarious was the local TV stations interrupting normal broadcasts all afternoon with dozens of on-the-street-reporters looking for a story. All they could find was broken ketchup and wine bottles in the grocery stores. And a few broken pipes.

Kinda reminded me of the OJ chase on the LA freeway. Nothing to see and about as exciting as watching grass grow.

Of interesting note was the interruption of cell phone service. Seems everyone was on the air simultaneously, temporarily shutting off access. I'd have an alternate communication device in the event of an emergency if I lived in the big cities.

Once I can move back into a single story place I wont sweat them no matter what. In this place (tri level on top of a garage) it makes me uneasy. One way in, one way out and you wont find me going downstairs if this place is rockin.
