I havn't been on the Forum for a while and cruising the topics it's interesting that Corvettes at Carlisle isn't on the radar. Anyway, unless work interferes I'm going to go up and check out lifts and exhaust system installers. Has anybody here had an exhaust installed there at the show and is it worthwhile price and quality wise? Is an appointment necessary or first come first served? I appreciate any feedback. Take care!

Soooo...

Do they buy your old exhaust, or what? How do you get the OEM unit home?

It would be hard for me to just give that away. Am I crazy?

I'm sure they junk it but I don't know for sure. After 14 years it can't be worth much. I'm a pack rat but at this point in my life I have developed limits. One year I bought an entire interior from Al Koche and carried it home in my '82. My copilot had to hold seat cushions all the way home. I wonder why she has never wanted to go back with me?

Aw hell... Maryland is practically local! Now if you were in, say, Colorado....

Back to topic, I don't think exhausts are that hard to do, so the install quality shouldn't be an issue. Especially with people watching and all...

As far as cost, I bet they give pretty good deals there at the show. Plus they can probably do them pretty quick. Plus if they dispose of the old stuff for you, and you don't want it, that saves you the hassle.

Which system are you looking at, just out of curiosity?

I havn't made up my mind yet and need to re-read some threads here and at the other place. Having a system installed at the show is a recent thought. I would like a nice mellow sound without alot of resonance. Am I dreaming?

Look at Corsa. The price is a nightmare, (I've purchased cars for less) but from everything I've read, it is the best. Especially for resonance. I will have that system someday. Stock until then. I won't put money into any other system.

I have experienced resonance in a C4. Not good.

Thanks, I'll take your advice. I've wasted enough money over the years on junk and now that I have a little saved I'd prefer spending it on expensive accessories once!

I'm not a fan of any bolt-on exhaust system.

The only guarantee against leaks and loose mufflers is to weld it in place. I don't know about Corsa, but several of the rear Y-pipes from other makes aren't cockeyed to match the crooked corvette drivetrain, so the mufflers don't slip on straight, and come loose as a result.

IMO, the Corsa tone is pretty bland and the exhaust tips look like they came from an MTV video. I don't really see the appeal.

I have a dyno comparison somewhere on it, I recall the gains on an LT1 were small.

Not to Highjack the thread,,,,But

BigRedWing

Where are you from? I'm not far from you, if your Sig is correct. Between two rivers would be the Potomac and the Pax I assume? I have friends in Mechanicsville and Cobb Island. I'm up on the bay in Chesapeake Beach.

ok Car related ...
I'm planning on going on Saturday to look at lifts and drool over the cars. I really should be getting mine finished instead of dicking around every free weekend.

I am not positive about this, but don't plan on having any work done on a C4 at Carlisle.......

If you are planning on it I would contact the vendor BEFORE going to Carlisle...

Again thanks for the info. Now that I think about it there were alot of C5s and C6s getting exhaust systems last year. I'll see what the Carlisle web page has to offer for contacts. It's all fun anyway.

For Biggrizzly - I live off of Rt5 just a mile or so south of Leonardtown High School. Nice to hear from somebody else in the "Land of Pleasant Living".

Why not? They don't want these old plastic heaps taking up valuable space on the lift?

I talked with one of the Corsa installers today and they do NOT do C4 installations at events like Carlisle.

One of the reasons is that C4 cars are older and thus corrosion makes the installation more difficult. Plus the C4 exhaust system is just more difficult than C5/C6....

Crock of shit. What is the difference between rust on a 96 LT1/4 and a 97 LS1.

The C5 and C6 is the money maker on the lifts for exhaust swaps. The truth is they are easier. And also consider they are doing header swaps as well. The trick on the header swaps is they keep the cats and then sell them to the scrap guys and make even more money.

I saw the operation in action last year and laughed my ass off. They use latino labor for the work, paying minimum wage and then make money on the system and then money off your cats.

Oh well, then I will pick out a four post lift, order a new exhaust, and when everything arrives have a winter project. I'm sure I'll get more ideas than I have time to accomplish at Carlisle. Thanks for the replys!

Everything I've seen at Carlisle the last 5 years has catered exclusively to the C5/6 crowd as far as exhaust installation.

Last year there were at least 4 lifts set up by Borla/Corsa, and they were damn fast at it.

The piles of neatly stacked complete stock systems that had been removed made me think someone was going to store them somewhere for years until there was a resto market for oem systems.

Can you imagine what the NCRS guys would be paying for original complete systems for their C2/3s?

I'll be up there Saturday in either the '71 or the '88.
