To get a LLT replacement Distributor and Ignition module for my Blazer.

Called first. "Yes, we have a unit to swap out".
Drive 10 miles to the store.
MonkeyBoy gets the Distributor, pulls it out of the box,
and low and behold, it's the unit I gave them last month
as a core unit. Of course, it's the only unit they have.
No Ignition module in stock. I'm not happy.

Computer tells MonkeyBoy the store 2 towns over, has both units in stock.
So, I drive 20 miles to the next store.
ArangutangMan gets the distributor, pulls it out of the box, and it's a newly rebuilt unit. I'm happy about that.
Next, A-B-M gets the module out. I'm skeptical. Box is all beat to hell. ArangutangMan scatches his chin, pulls the unit out. No heat transfer compound in the beat-to-hell box.
Hummmmmm.
I inspect unit, and notice how dirty the base heatsink is, and notice the heat compound in the crevases of the case.
Another returned unit.

Next store to have them is in Milwaukee, 30 miles away.
I didn't drive to Milwaukee.

Went home, installed Distributor and iffy module.
Truck runs. Yippee.

I hate dealing with "monkeyboy". He must have a brother down in south Florida.

I hear they're hiring. You should work part time just so you can get your 15% discount on chrome wire looms and blue led lights.

Oh don't get me started with napa... They're almost worse because they raise your expectations, and then still fail miserably to deliver.

Monkey Boy up here wanted to argue with me that heatsink compound was the same as dialectric grease!

The thing with NAPA is that there are still a few stores that are good... they haven't been diluted with ignorant morons.

I have pretty good luck with Advance Auto around here. Not only do they somehow carry a lot of C4 parts, but if they don't have it they'll order it for 7 AM the next morning without making me pay first.

As far as knowledgeable service counter people, Carquest is the best around me.

Advance Auto parts FAILED also.

A year ago in June, on the way to my daughter's HS graduation, the alternator failed.

Went to Advance after the ceremony, and guess what the guy pulled out of a Brand New (not remanufactured) Alternator box?

Yep. An old burnt out unit.

Luckily, they had another box with a new unit in stock.
