lt1 vacuum lines/routing

I need ideas. I have a piggyback controller that uses a vacuum line to overide the MAP sensor. It says to run the shortest line possible for this. There aren't many connections on the LT1 intake, so I have it Tee'd into the line that feeds the ASR, EGR and Opti vent. I realized the Opti vent isn't hooked up correct. The other side is fed into the vacuum connetion on the passenger side, so there probably isn't any air flowing through it. The vacuum port on the passenger side has the purge valve, FPR and Opti vent. The bottom port has the two lines feeding toward the trans.

Anyway would it help to have a dedicated line for the controller, and where would I run it from? This is a forced induction engine.

It seems as if I need to cut the bolt in two places, between the bushing and frame mount and pull the arm off with the center portion of the bolt still inside the bushing.

Thanks!

Did you remove the spring. Be sure there is no tension on the arm. A few light taps on the end should move the bolt without any problems.

To remove the bolt you will have to cut or drill the head off, and push it out of the front. When you reinstall the new ones put them in from the front. There is a brake line really close, so be sure not to cut or damage it.

Here is a link with more tips.

When I was at the plant it took them 5 minutes to get the ZR1 out of the spray booth.

I was having this issue with my car last summer. However mine was sitting in the sunlight during the day. Before I would try to start it I would open my fuel cap. Later I found my fuel tank vent line and purge valve were clogged. If I didn't relieve the pressure it could take 2-3min for it to clear up.

Be sure it is the correct connection. I see that one has two screws to hold it on. Some screw into the tb themselves.

How is your build going? Will it be ready to go for the summer?

I just have to tune it. Waiting on good weather. The idle is set, and I have done a few run cycles. My tune sessions have only been 10min due to my laptop battery. The new one should be in today.

I can't tell if there is a station to seat a new primer but that was a good loader. You push the silver bar from one station for power and the next to the other for shot. You would need a scale to see the amount of shot and powder each side loads/ unless it is marked on the bar. There won't be a pretty roll on the close of the case but if you aren't using an auto or a pump works great.

Its hard to see in the bottom picture, but they both have five stations. There is one on the back left to push out the primer. Then the front left installs the new one. In the slide bar there are powder and shot bushings that you change for load size. I only have pumps. I remember helping my uncle reload with these reloaders when I was young, and that the crimp would have to be fixed once in a while.

Here are the picture of them. My uncle called back. He did not find any extra dies, but did find another reloader (model 250) and is sending it to me.

I put an empty case in the DL105. It will crimp, but the final die makes it more like a roll than a crimp. I called my uncle and he is checking for any other dies. I will post pics later.

Does anyone reload shotshells. I am going to start since the price continues to go up. I aquired two reloaders from my Uncle Steve. They were another relatives that had passed years ago when Steve received them. However the one I would like to use is set up for 20ga, and I only shoot 12ga.

I am trying to find a 12ga die set for a Hornady/Pacific 155. This product is discontinued and no parts are available. This one is in great shape, and I would like to bring it back for my use.

The other reloader I got was a Pacific Dl-105. I think it is set up for 12ga though.

What oil are you running. I had a lifter problem in my S10, but it was actually a poor grade of oil (quick change place).

Yes they are. I would much rather have a job like this vs current one. There was another story about employers wanted to hire the older generation. Due to the younger generation being lazy. Although I am younger I have been working full time for 15yrs. I have missed a total of five days due to sickness where I have had to call in.

The drivers side actually sits 3/4" lower. This is the side that the bolt is in further making more spring pressure. I tried to raise it up, but the closest is 1/2" so far. I have turned the bolt in another 2 1/2 turns. This has raised the drivers side 1/2", but lifting on the drivers side has raised the passenger 1/4"

This has helped a lot. There has to be an issue with the torsion bar, because the bolt is almost at bottom. The passenger side has 5-6 threads showing. Just like my truck does.

I don't have a way to load them. The driver side is about 2 turns tighter, and the measurement was 3/4" lower. It was in the flattest spot I could find in my drive, but I want to do more measuring.

Bill, it would help if I were to proof read my post. I meant the torsion bars.

One is adjusted about a turn or two tighter than the other, but the ride height is the same on both sides. I didn't know if there was a way to see if they were the same.

The speed is usually 30mph+. It happens when you come out of a dip. It feels like one side rebounds faster which then makes the back feel like it has a roll to it. The only suspension parts I have not replaced are the sway bars and the torsion brackets (under the center of vehicle). The title is clean and there are not any marks on the body or frame indicating a wreck.

I have ordered a steering stabilizer, but it did not have one from the factory. The mount on the frame is there, but not in the steering link arm.

On the '96 GMC Jimmy I bought last year there is a "sway" in it. This only happens when a dip or lift is hit in the road. All front end components are new, with new shocks on all four. When I had it at the dealer they noticed this too, and confirmed all parts were good.

My only thought is one of the sway bars is sprung, or was replaced with the wrong one. Is there a stamp or code in them that this could be confirmed?

A 58cc is on the small side for a L98. With AFR they do cast them on the small side and then mill them to what you want. For my LT1 it is a 55cc head milled to 58cc. If you buy them from a wholeseller they don't give you this option from AFR. This increases the wholesellers profit.

I have a set of 60lb injectors that are used for $225. I had bought them used with the information of them having 8k on them. The o-rings are new. They are too big for my set up. I will be listing them up for auction if no one wants them here.

I resolved the belt issue. All pullies are aligned. The idler just before the balancer has a spacer. It is not a tight fit onto the bolt. I figured it might be too loose, and angling up with pressure so I tighted it to the max. This didn't help. To compensate I decided to put an angle on the spacer. This was done with a hand file. I reinstalled it, and the belt rides perfectly in the middle.

My next issue is the tune. My program is 16 fields wide and goes from 500-8500rpm. I had installed 60lb injectors thinking I could tune them out. This wasn't the case. At 4.4 it was way too rich, and at 3.3 it was running lean and would not stay running. This does not give me any room. I have reinstalled the stock injectors, but at an idle I have them set at 10. This is still on the lean side as my AFR guage was in the upper 14's.

What octane do you use and how often do you fill up. They do have a preset tune for when wot. If you were getting a spark knock it may be a fuel issue.

The relays on the passenger side have been known to fill the car with smoke when they go bad. I don't know if any of them are connected to the fan though.

Having a car sit isn't as great as people think. With this have any changes been made to the vette. When someone changes/modifies something is usually the cause for problems. Are the other cars as tip-top as the vette or do you let little items slide by.

I adjusted the fuel levels down across the board to compensate for the injectors. After I did this it fired up without pressing on the gas and idled smooth. The tune is still a bit rich, but I didn't have to turn on the fan to air out the garage this time.

My belt did jump one groove from the charger to the harmonic balancer. I'm going to put a shim on the outer connecting bolt to angle the pulley in.

Thats how the kit is designed to fit. As if there weren't already enough hoses and lines for an LT1. The plate will go on once I'm done. Plus I still have to repaint it.

I'll take a few pics tonight. There is one part you will really like...

I know...it's probably something I had made for you a LONG time ago.

That will be installed once the engine is tuned/done. Just wait for the pictures.

I am at the point of starting the car. It fired up last night, but is really rich. The gas had to be pressed a bit to get it to start and it won't idle. I haven't tried to adjust the tune yet, so this is what I will do tonight. I only had it running for a few minutes and it smoked out my garage.

I thought there was something in the front... inside the timing chain area. Damned my freaky memory.

There are three oil galley plugs behind the timing chain. The two outer ones have a small pinhole in them to help supply oil to the waterpump gear drive. This was an update according to some service manuals. My '92 had them.

LT1s have an oil fitting of some sort on the front of the engine... It is real important and I don't remember the details! I am only leaving it here as a tickler for more experienced LT1 builders. I don't have my LT1 book handy right now.

Is this what you are thinking?

Under the rear main cap there is a ball bearing (plug) that needs to be punched out for proper cleaning. You use a long punch from the oil pressure sensor port. It must be reinstalled otherwise it will bypass the filter.

It is for my pod guages and piggyback control. Both have 20 guage wire from them.

What wire should I use for a "switched" power location.

you have a couple of choices... but the easiest is to drill behind the battery, near where the big power conduit passes through. I put my amp wires there... then seal the hole with RTV or something.

This is where I was looking at but wanted to be sure. It worked perfect. I am mounting the piggyback control box in this area, so the wires didn't have to go far.
