Not to be a smart ass, but if the transmission is still usable or even rebuildable why did you replace it?
Because I do not have the cash to rebuild it. I have a credit card that I could use online only so I used it to buy a new one and I am going to sell the old one to help pay for the new one. I know, sounds dumb but I dont have $1,500 bucks laying around and even if I did I need that to help get my clearance back.

well... it's actually cold here this morning... a balmy 41 when I went to get the papers.

For this area, that's cold. This little house isn't the least bit insulated, so all the heat stored goes away. It gets below 60 in here first thing in the morning.

Have you tried emailing the pictures from your phone to your computer?

New drum lick, cool. You will have to arrange and record it!

My mom's area (Delaware) might be getting hit by a winter storm... off to weather.com to check it out.

Good Morning Gurus!

Well, I picked up my daughter's car from the paint shop last night. About what one would expect from a $500 paint job. Not too bad, really. It sure is purple. But it seems to fit the car.

I call it "The Purple Nurple" but my teenage daughter is not thrilled with that, and has asked me not to call it that in front of her friends. Geez, I thought it was cute!

I do have "before" photos, but they are on my iPhone, and I need to upgrade some computer software before I can get them off of the phone. Guess I shoulda bought that computer instead of two sets of tires, a new bass guitar, two amps, a stereo for my Amigo and an electric drum set. But I sure am having fun with all that other stuff!

I was messing around on the drums last night, and something just clicked. I actually came up with a really nice beat that I am going to work into a song. I don't think I would give up playing bass to do drums, but it's always good to expand one's horizons...

What's up in your world today?

Have super one!

Cars been in the shop since sunday. Hopefully I will get it back for saturday night but I don't have my hopes up. Gas gauge float is still not worknig so it says full constantly till it hits reserve, the neon wiring is getting echecked, out, heat is not working correctly. Also, the digidash flickers and goes haywire so he says he will check the connections and look for a broken solder. Heater core seems to be fine but apparently theres a vacum that opens up and lets the hot water come thru so that might be a suspect. Looking for a front headlight motor as well. Might be the gears though but they don't look stripped. Still havent gotten to look at the window much. Probably a ribbon but maybe not. Once it comes back home I am going to rinstall the interiro pieces and FINIALLY have a halfway normal car. Going to replace the foglight switch before though and I already bought a new headlight rod/knob to complete it out. Much thanks to T.A.O.D. for ordering for me. Car passed inspection a while back which is nice. Made a complete list of everything that needs to be done to the car for it to be up to par and it's pretty long but I can do all of it which is a good learning experience. Radiator needs to be cleaned becaue there is a ton of leaves on the front, flush out the system, put on some new hoses, and maybe a new cap. Already has a new thermostat. That about covers it all for me.

I can tell you right now that the gas sender is bad. Get used to it. The GM senders are horrible. And they are EXPENSIVE - $350.00.

I use the trip odo, and refill ever 200 miles. Whether I need it or not.

Not likely. The guy said that it's hard to get it to sit exactly right. My dad replaced the fuel pump and since then it has not been right.

Haywire dash means it blacks out completly and then goes blurry sometime.

If the bill comes out to 350 for the gas sender unit plus labor my dad will FALIP!!! That is expensive. Hope it's not that. It was pretty accurate before that. I think my injectors are about to go out or atleast one of them. When I let the car idle, it ticks LOUD. Thought it was a bad lifter but pinned to to the injectors unless it's something below them. Didn't use to tick.

We did the LBGP on Saturday last year, for the ALMS event. Great fun! We plan on doing it again!

I'm out Pomona Valley way. I've been going to LBGP for some time, geeze I was out there when the were runnin Formula 1 if that's any indication. I've been sitting out at the hairpin along the beach and park in the sand by the Yardhouse. I know a guy in the "Comittee 300" that works the event, he gets some good pricing on the 3 day event with a pass to a private party by the hairpin. Give me a call next April and we'll see if we can set you up. That's right about the ALMS there's nothing like a C6 going through the gears around that turn and down that straight.

that sounds like fun! We will be in contact!!!

Richmonds have had a less than steller reputation... initially, it was just a generally crude box. It wasn't the smoothest shifter on the planet. It's also rather "old school," with external linkages.

I have heard of them failing, at various miles. Even saw one die on a TV show.

A haywire dash? Whats your voltage like? Sounds like its not getting enough juice. At least that is what has happened to me before...but then I had a bad alternator.

Yeah, trying to pay for things is half the fun. Lotta stuff your family has done to your house there black. I am taking a break from painting my trim outside right now. As soon as its dry it comes back into the house and reinstalled. It came off because I tore down the paneling in the hallway. After the trim is up I am hoping to get the base boards down. Then all I have to do is crown molding....that project I will save until next month.

It's been dry and dusty down here. Washed Saturday night, dirty Sunday afternoon. Today I rinsed them off, dried them and put on the car covers.

Yeah, the basement will get a pooper. The plumbing is roughed in. My area of town is permit happy. They go so far as to tell you what colors your house and roof can be. I guess they enjoy their little dictatorship. I have friends that build houses, so I think I can get hooked up nicely. Everything but the loan...

Since August we have done lots to our house. We had our bathroom done to make it wheelchair accessible because we found out that this place for handicapped would pay for it all because my sister was paralyzed in a car wreck. She had a pressure sore on her bottom so they installed a jacuzzi bathtub(jets, deeper, curved), bathchair, handbars, widened the door, new toilet, sink, and counters. We are redoing the kitchen as well. I helped my dad rip out cabinets, floor ect. We had our whole house which is hardwood sanded down and stained cherry oak. We tore out our otherb athroom and am still working on it. Working on the garage as well. Just had our porch sealed up to make it into a room. Had some new gutters put up. Basment hasnt been messed with yet. Whole house is being repainted right now. Uhh, I think that about covers it. Lots of work done and were still doing it as of now. So lots of projects every week.

It really is like working on a vette. The basement, are you going to add a bathroom down there? I have home improvement books and alot of stuff is really easy. The hardest part is knowing if you need a permit or not. I found out that I should have had a permit when I redid my bathroom. Apparently any home improvement that costs over $500 requires a permit for my area. I say, screw that! If I ever redo my kitchen or extend my house I will do the permit but why should I pay extra money for something so simple?

Pretty much just painting so far. We bought the house when it was just a hole in the ground. That was in the fall of '98. We moved in at the very end of November.

I did have someone add a BUNCH of concrete out back to transform our postage stamp sized back porch into something that you could almost play half-court basketball on if you were so inclined.

We are thinking about finishing the basement soon. If a friend of mine will help me, I would love to have some hands on experience with that kinda thing. But I may end up just hiring someone. I'd rather save the cash and gain the knowledge if at all possible.

The bugger is that I have so much shite in the basement right now that I practically have to put a shed out back to hold it all before I start construction downstairs.

Funny how one thing leads to another. Almost like working on a Vette, I guess!

Just wondering here, how many home improvements do you do to your house a month or a year?

I do about 1-3 projects a month anything from painting, to re-doing my bathroom. Latest project was laying hardwood laminate floors in my hallway last night

Ok I'm back with the car. It's actually a 2 year old Optima red top. I bought a wild battery charger with diagnostics included, very cool. Hooked it up and it said 4.5v. Set it to charge on a gel type setting and it is charging the battery as I type. It went up to 12.5v in about 45mins but my oh so smart charger decided the run it through some "desulfication" mode. It's bumping it up to like 13.7 and letting it drain back to 12.5. The manual states this is for batteries that have been not used in a while. Maybe it will live, who knows? I figure I'll let her do her thing for now and try to start her in an hour or so. I will be really embarrassed if thats all it was, a bad battery. I'm usually smarter than this. I ASSumed the battery was fine (ie.. not that old, real expensive) and went digging deeper looking for a big conspiracy and flying off the handle as to why it wouldn't start. Next stop will be cables if the optima passes the leakdown test. One thing I failed to mention that just occurred to me now as I am working on her in the cold rain (as my Corvette chuckles at me from inside the warm garage) is it failed to start as soon as the temp got below like 50 degrees, dead give away for a weak battery. Oh well live and learn I guess, Hope this works and thanks again to all Guru's who responded. Maybe I just need a mental kick in the tail sometimes!

So, with five new tires, mounted, balanced, road hazard warranty, rotations for life, disposal fees and everything, it was like $540 for all five tires.

Pretty sweet deal, I think!

How's everyone's day looking?

5 tires?

Do you have a duelie set-up on one side of the rear axle?

An older version of this buyer's guide really helped me! I looked at a lot of cars "virtually", but I bought the first one I drove in person. Normally, I would not have done that, but thanks to the buyer's guide, I know I got a really great car at a more than fair price. Five months of happiness with the car so far!

I've said it more than once..."Thanks Andy, for this guide!"

Good Morning Gurus!

Well, it has been cold and snowy in my part of the world. The nozzles that deliver windshield washer fluid to the windscreen on my company van decided to stop working about ten miles from home during a slushy drive to work. The motor is working, but I think maybe the hoses are clogged or frozen...

So my buddy that I carpool with and I turned around and grabbed his sUV. I'm about an hour late getting to work this morning. No big deal. Just a pain in the arse.

I got new tires for my Amigo last night. I got a pretty good deal. My wife works at a Wal-Mart, and they had a set of Goodyear Tracker 2 tires (31X10.5X15) that were originally $160 each. They are a discontinued tire, so they were marked down to $110 each. On top of that, my wife gets a 10% discount at Wal-Mart. On top of THAT, for Christmas each year, Wal-Mart gives employees an additional 10% off of one item in the store. We got special permission to have that one item be a set of five tires!

So, with five new tires, mounted, balanced, road hazard warranty, rotations for life, disposal fees and everything, it was like $540 for all five tires.

Pretty sweet deal, I think!

How's everyone's day looking?

Where are you, Ramrod? As I said, I am in Torrance.

We did the LBGP on Saturday last year, for the ALMS event. Great fun! We plan on doing it again!

Considering I am in Torrance and Casey is Australia... I might be able to make it.

Fair bit of a trip for me to make it over there for a quiet beer, but we'll have to see if we can fit that in when im over that way eh? Thanks very much for your kind offer

Come on out for the Long Beach Gran Prix in April, and a quick trip to Las Vegas, I hear they have beer there? Oh yeah and I'll take you to Disneyland too.

Got BFGs on the back. They sure didn't last long. Dunlops on the front because they only had the front size in dunlops*front tires are smaller than rear". Dunlops have really good tread life though. Had kumos before that but couldnt find them anymore. They were allright. I would like a 4 set of the same tire but....
