Thanks for the assembly tips.

The Summit one came yesterday, that was quick.

I'll find out next week when I pick up the old engine.

Stiffer front coil springs came in.

I'll be installing them this weekend.
Hopefully I can get more power down out of the corners.

Ordering up an engine cradle to store my old engine

Site says one for a small block wouldn't fit an LT1/4 engine

Quote:
Includes standard wheels and Grade 5 fasteners. Will not fit early blocks without side motor mounts. Does not fit LT1 engines.

That true? New one on me.

Is so, what are you using?

I have AFR heads on mine, but they're the LT1/4 heads.

I'd give them a call as suggested.

Here's a way around burning chips
BlowerWorks;
Hi Doug !

The C4 L98 ECM's are quite powerful. Maybe not as sophisticated as a C5 & up but more than adequate to handle a turbo or blower. Much of the C5 and up PCM's are for trans etc. and not needed for the C4. In fact the C4 ECM is really easy to do real time tuning which you cannot do on the C5 etc. without major mods. Add an Ostrich to a C4 along with TunerPro RT or TunerCat RT software and you'd be surprised !!! Also I offer new slot style MAF's (1985 thru 1989) that can easily support 1000 RWHP. I also offer 2 or 3 BAR tunes for the 1990/91 and if you get into the LTx's there are even more options. All of this is easily done w/o an aftermarket ECM.
I understand your reluctance to deal with C4's but expertise is available and the hardware is actually pretty good. It always comes down to money and I know better than most what a difficult business this is !!!!!!!!!!! greg
http://www.moates.net/ostrich-20-the-new-breed-p-169.html?cPath=64
Ronaldo;
Plugs into the chip slot, it only emulates the chip.

Just installed one in my 1987. Very easy. The Ostrich is fantastic little device :-)
I've got the same kit

Works normally

Just watch using that switch

You can quickly kill the battery, which will do in the alternate

Been there, broke that.

Will Peter Clifford 'save' the NHRA?

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) put on a great Mello Yello Drag Racing Series race last weekend at Norwalk, Ohio. The results featured an all-woman final showdown in Pro Stock Motorcycle between winner Karen Stoffer and three-time champ Angelle Sampey. In Pro Stock, Greg Anderson continued his return to form after 2014 heart surgery. Jack Beckman triumphed in a Don Schumacher Racing Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car with sponsorship from Infinite Hero Foundation (courtesy of Terry Chandler) and the #KalittaStrong mosh pit returned when Doug Kalitta hit the stripe first in Top Fuel.
Change in management

Still, all of this joy was tempered by the goings-on at NHRA’s Glendora, Calif. headquarters, where a change of management has occurred. 15-year president Tom Compton “retired” last week after being AWOL from the series for at least the past three months, to be replaced by Peter Clifford, yet another bland faceless human that no one is close to. Clifford was seen at the track over the race meeting and did the appropriate photo opportunities with mega-star John Force and with starter Mark Lyle. He may even have pressed a few palms with fans.

Although I’m somewhat of a newbie to professional and sportsman drag racing, I’ve been in the motor sport business for nearly half a century and have a fair clue of how to conduct this business. And as the estimable Dave Densmore so aptly said on www.competitionplus.com, “NHRA is about as transparent as a block of granite.” By refusing to answer questions about why Compton retired, by blocking journalists from asking questions about the future of the sport, NHRA is shooting itself in the proverbial foot.
A new direction

And the way Mr Clifford addressed his pending programs was so bland, it’s tough to get interested at all. Sure, we’d all like to see better television, but aside from bringing production in-house, how will this happen? “Announcements and press releases will be coming soon,” Mr Clifford stated. And he kept repeating that mantra throughout his press conference. He wants to see more [Lucas Oil] Sportsman participation in the amateur classes that are NHRA’s foundation. He wants to expand coverage of the sport and expose more people to drag racing. And he wants to see more relevance in categories like Pro Stock, which desperately needs direction.

How is this all going to transpire? We’ll have to wait for those announcements and press releases to see.
What NHRA needs

What NHRA - and every sanctioning body for that matter - needs is someone at the top with passion. Passion for their sport, an awareness of what it takes to compete in their sport and desire for success of their sport, beyond counting beans. Beans don’t make racing great; people who are happy to work in the business and people that regularly enjoy the competition make racing great. It’s all about the passion.

And Peter Clifford is, or came to NHRA, as a bean counter. He was the sanctioning body’s chief financial officer before taking on the role of a vice president and general manager. That doesn’t connote passion. And it also doesn’t connote an understanding of the lifeblood of NHRA drag racing. While it’s said that founder Wally Parks never drove the quarter-mile, he did participate in land-speed racing and understood the ideology of competition. Have Dallas Gardner, Tom Compton or now Peter Clifford, his successors, done the same thing?

At least NASCAR’s Brian France was born into a racing family and understands the concept; I’m afraid that the current head of NHRA drag racing doesn’t have that appreciation and understanding and that, in part, is what is stopping this exhilarating sport from becoming the most watched and enjoyed in the United States.

That and the lack of transparency in discussing issues that are important to its stakeholders is what stops NHRA from moving forward. Can Peter Clifford dig deep with his constituents, get his hands dirty and move this behemoth forward? If Clifford doesn’t move quickly, the honeymoon will be over before he knows it

Lance Smith, restorer of Greenwood Race Cars is reporting that Corvette innovator and racing legend John Greenwood passed away yesterday July 7, 2015.

Greenwood, well known for his innovative racing designs, with his wild wedged shaped bodies, highly developed suspensions, work with the fuel injected big block motors and lightweight materials won an SCCA Trans Am Championship, SCCA Production championships, and wins at Sebring and Daytona in IMSA Camel GT.

He was also well know for his racing at Lemans where he blasted down the Mulsanne Straight at 230 plus MPH.

I Met John on a number of occasions in the late 60's to early 80's. A great guy who always had time for his fans.

Godspeed John...thanks for putting America up front in the Golden Years of Sports Car Racing in North America. It was a thrill to watch you compete.

To his family...thanks for sharing this legend with us, he will be sorely missed.

The alcohol in the newer gas EATS the old Corvette gas tanks!

I know of a restoration shop that buys gas by the 50gal drum because of it.

Changing the starter on my mother's Saturn wasn't as bad as I thought is was going to be,

Getting at some of the bolts as a little tough

Bought one of those 90degree ratchets for the spark plugs, was a great tool for working on the starter as I didn't have room to swing a regular ratchet

Pep Boys has a really great selection of that stuff.

Used it for reliability test rigs

Took my mother to her's best friend Funeral
They had me drive her car right up to the grave so she didn't have to get out.

Afterwards.... the car WOULDN'T START!

Friend took her to the dinner while I waited for AAA after the jump start from friends and the groundskeeper couldn't get the starter to engage

The AAA got it started, said it needed a new starter, bad tooth just luck

Dropped off her car can went to the dinner to go get her with the truck.

Shopping for a replacement starter now.

Try Summit

I called them this afternoon about running Mickey Thompsons

They didn't know the answer, so they called up the manufacturer for the correct one.

The early cars had some harness issues

You may want to take a meter and see if they all checkout.

I'd hate for you to get a new engine management system & wind up with the same issues.

The service manual is not that expensive, and will save you a lot of headaches.

I'm secure in my Corvette fandom, but it is still really cool to see Ford back at LeMans. For those who need background on the first time around, Baime's Go Like Hell (2009) is a good place to start.

you'll be happy to find out then that they are planning a full season

BTW Roush Yates is doing the engine

Nice thing about the $1 registration fee is that it makes traceability of users.
