Anybody that has replaced the fuel lines on their L98 with braided hose from the filter to rail want to post some pics. I'm interested in your routing and clamping. I'm staying with the front input fuel rails, so that's really what I'd like to see.

Thanks all.

Thanks guys. I'm going to want them for all the Banski stuff; Tie Rods, Camber Rods and the Trailing Arms. Assuming all use the RERS 3, I'd need 16 and they come in packs of 6. 3 Packs would only leave me two extras so I can live with that. I'll try to order from Seals-It directly and see if they can ship USPS to me APO Box.

Thanks again.

Hey Mike, Where did you get the Seals-It boots? Did Steve send them to you? What size are they (RERS2, 3)? I'd like to get them for mine Banski stuff.

I bought 20 Sylvania 882s a while back from Amazon for $1.88 each! I bought 20 as that was all they had. Can't find them at that price anymore though. I repair these clusters for UK club members so they went to good use. I've got three working spares on the bench and still have 4 of the cheap 882s left, but will go with these Xenons next time I need some. Thanks for sharing the sources. BTW Jim Adams is the guy selling the kits on Ebay under the seller witchcity (from Salem, MA). A great guy to deal with. I've bought several LCDs from him and can recommend him.

Whoa..... slow down, this is doable.

You will need to open up the cluster and remove the rear circuit board to get to the LCD panes. The rear board is tricky as it's held in by a row of pins to the front board which can be very difficult to pull lose. Unscrew it and then try wriggling that rear board loose from those pins...

When you get that board off, the front board comes off next. Now, there's some pink/orangish rubbery strips in there that are surrounded with plastic retainers, these make contact with the LCD panes which are simply clamped against them when the front board is screwed in.

I would try removing the pane in question and gently clean the edges where these strips contacts it. It may be stuck to the pane, but don't worry, it's not glued on or anything, and if you carefully loosen it it won't hurt anything. If you actually touch the contact points on the strips, you'll notice parts of the lcd panes light up! Ok, probably not a good idea to screw with that too much.

Anyhow, upon assembly, double and triple check that you get the panels in correctly, it's tricky to get them seated flush and get all the rubber spacers in properly.

:me2: Especially the last paragraph. Don't want to crack an LCD!

If you get stuck, I've got a couple that I've rebuilt on the shelf. I can send you one to use for your verification and until you get yours working.

This almost sounds like he is saying that the distributor is not dropping all the way down. If so, make sure the oil pump drive is mating. Look down the hole and see what way the drive slot is facing. With a long flat head screwdriver, align it so it will mate with the flat in the distributor drive shaft when the rotor is pointed at your mark. Another method is to drop the distributor in with the rotor pointing to your mark and bump the starter or turn the crank by hand. The engine will turn and as the distributor drive gear is mated with the cam gear, it stays in time and turns with the engine until the drive shaft aligns with the oil pump drive and the distributor drops all the way down.

If this isn't what you meant, sorry to waste your time.

It does. The '85 has no A/C Clutch Relay controlled by the CCM. There is no ECM involvement with respect to A/C Clutch Engagement on the early C60 cars.

Checking for 12v to Compressor Clutch is a good check, but we are still assuming that the OP's problem is with A/C Clutch engagement and not something else. He's not replied since the initial post, so we don't have any idea what "AC no longer works" actually involves. I made the assumption that since he had ripped out much under the hood and probably did an engine swap or at least a remove, rebuild, replace, that maybe something in the A/C lines was stressed and gas was lost, not allowing Clutch engagement. I know what ASSUMING can get you into, but with no other information to go on, I took a stab.

I didn't see any ecm connection whatsoever.

There's an output TO the ecm, but I believe that's only so the ecm can raise the idle.

Also it is used to turn on the Primary Fan.

Follow CC's schematics. I suspect when you say your A/C no longer works, it is because your Compressor is not running and not that the Blower doesn't run. You need to look at the the two switches on page 220 of CC's attachment. I suspect a loss of gas during your swap and the Pressure Cycling Switch is open. The Compressor will not engage if this switch isn't closed. Check the switch with an Ohm meter. To verify, you can jump the two pins of the connector momentarily to see if the Compressor engages.

Joe,
In your picture of the trans. the single spade lug connector just to the right of the OD fill plug is the connector that engages the OD.

The three switches connected to the forward shifter lugs are the gear switches that would only allow OD in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. I wouldn't even bother with these and connect the spade lug connector directly to a relay as OZ suggested.

The rear switch connected to the rear shifter lug is the reverse switch.

The neutral start switch is also optional. I bypassed mine years ago so I didn't have to get in the car and press the clutch pedal if I wanted to start the car during maintenance. If you decide to use it, it's simple as you've discovered. In order for the starter to engage, the purple wire has to connect to the dark green/white as you found when jumping them. The clutch safety switch should have two connectors that these two wires connect to. You should verify that the clutch safety switch closes when the clutch pedal is fully depressed and is open at all other times. Use an Ohm meter for this (DMM switched to Ohms). If you connect the purple and dark green/white wires to this switch and it closes when the clutch pedal is fully depressed, the starter should engage.

Damn, that's too bad. I'm pretty sure my Dymags are Series I as I purchased them in 1988 (Wow that two decades went by fast!).

No, same size. 13" rotor, and the caliper uses the same pad. You can upgrade to the C6 Z51 if you have the wheel space which gives you a 13.4" rotor. You just need to supplement the Z51 abutment bracket.

Jeff, I have a set of your early C4 brackets that you were kind enough to ship to my APO address. I'm now in the process of getting the rest of the parts together and the C6 calipers look great. From Danspeed1's post it sounds like you can supply the calipers and abutment brackets too. Are the C6 Base/Z51 calipers red as in your picture or black as in Danspeed1's? What would it cost for the caliper and abutment bracket? What I'd like to do is get one caliper and abutment bracket to verify this will fit behind my Dymags. If they don't, I'm only out the cost of one caliper and bracket. If they do fit, I can come back for the rest of the pieces.

Thanks.

$219.95

Upon closer inspection of my injector package, it seems I'm missing the fuel rail o-rings. I was expecting the two o-rings for the fuel inlet and return, but got only the gaskets. Could I get these o-rings?

Many thanks.

Sounds great Ray, but if possible could you walk me through the shipping process to an APO, this is the first time I've done 1. The customs declaration is normal for us, but I just want to be sure you get your injectors haha.

Also, is the address on your paypal account the APO box that we will be shipping to? If not I need the address.

~Rich

Rich,
Yes, the PayPal home address is the APO Box that the injectors will ship to.

There really is no difference in shipping to APO/FPO AE and shipping to any other New York City address except that a customs declaration is required. Address the package with the APO send to address, include your return address and take the package to the Post Office. Fill out 2976-A
Then hand to the friendly Postal worker. Should be under $20.00 for Priority insured for $250 from Tampa to APO AE.

Thanks again for going through all the trouble.

I'll find out about shipping costs first thing in the morning. After that if you want to pay via paypal, I will need the email address linked to your paypal account, then I can send an invoice.

Tom, Let me know if you decide to offer the boots. I'll then order the Toe Rod Kit with boots and also boots for the other pieces you've supplied me.

Thanks.

We have those for you, and we only ship USPS Priority unless otherwise specified, I don't know if there is extra costs for shipping to an APO.

For the 24's I reccomend the Bosch Design III's in our rebuilt line.

3 year no questions warranty, viton o-rings installed, and flow matched. Also comes with the full gasket kit needed for the job, as well as the fuel rail o-rings.

$219.95

Rich, That sounds great. Cost for shipping to the New York APO is no different than shipping to any New York City address. The only difference is that a US Customs Declaration form is required stating the contents. How do I go about ordering a set. Do I PayPal you the dough or bank tranfer?

Thanks again.

Rich,
I'm looking for a set of 24lb for my '86. What's the best you've got that'll fit my stock TPI. BTW, the 24s are for future upgrades I know the factory's are 22lb. Also I'd need USPS Priority shipping to my Military APO box. I'm not expecting the free shipping, just looking to see if you'd be willing to ship USPS to the APO.

Many thanks.

It must be the kind with the security screw. If you carefully look at the rear wheels in the picture of my car, they are the same as those in the picture you posted. Also, since my wheels aren't new and shiny, I'm looking for some used caps, if possible. Certainly not glossy ones, maybe something with a matte finish.

Ah, you mean like this:

As you can see, they also fit the Dymags of the period. Difficult to find and when you can, not cheap. You'll also need the McGard security bolt set unless you intend to find an allen or torx head.

They can typically be had from a vendor like Seals It

Tom,
It would be great if you could offer these boots as an option. One stop shopping makes it so much easier.

when I reviewed the 84 manual, it was clear that if the resistor failed, the fan will run.

Not so clear to me.

The Relay has two states, energized and de-energized.

In the de-energized state, the current flows through the resistor pack. Based on the Blower Switch position, the current goes through one, two or all three resistors, through the NC contacts of the Relay and on to the Blower Motor. This current is only there when the A/C is not in the OFF position and only with the ignition in RUN. So if a resistor were to open you'd lose that speed. If all the resistors opened, you'd lose all speeds except HI. If all the resistors shorted, you'd get HI speed from the Blower in all speed positions, but only with Ignition in RUN and the A/C set to anything but OFF. The Blower won't run at all times (Ignition or A/C OFF) with a Resistor Pack fault.

In the energized state, the Blower gets current directly from the Battery through a Fusible Link. The Relay is energized by current through the A/C switch and the Blower Switch. Again current is only there when the Ignition is in RUN and the A/C is in an other than OFF mode. But if the Relay were to have its NO contacts stick closed, current would flow from the Battery through the fusible link, through the Relay's stuck closed NO contacts and on to the Blower Motor at all times. You'd have to disconnect something (Battery or Relay) to get it to stop.

Quote:
Check both, but I would bet the resistor is toast. They don't last forever!

Sure check both, but with no moving parts the Resistor Pack doesn't fail anywhere near as often as the Relay and when it does, it almost always results in lost non-HI speeds. I'd be very surprised if the Resistor Pack or any resistor within the pack is bad, given the original problem. Now once the Relay is replaced and the Blower Motor is not running at high speed all the time, he may find that one or more low speeds are not working. Then the Resistor Pack needs looking at.

Here's the schematic from the '84 manual:

He's determined it's one of the two blower relays.

I know of only one Blower Relay on the '84. It's labeled A/C High Speed Blower Relay in this drawing and is located under the Blower Motor:

If stuck closed, it will cause the Blower to run at all times.

Sounds logical. I'd start with Fusible Link A at the starter.
