I just got my new cam specs from Jerry! Damn that's way more duration and lift than the old cam for sure. How does this compare to some of you other 383 owners out there? I's just curious to see what Jerry has up his sleeve for me.
New 383 Cam Specs Adv. Duration @ .006 = 276/280 Adv. Duration @ .005 = 224/230 Lobe Separation = 113 Lift with 1.6 Rocker = 566 Intake, 577 Exhaust |

The XFI 280 seems to be a popular 383 cam
230/236 .576/.570 (w/1.6 ) 113 Mine runs fine with a dated GMPP 847 cam 234/242 .540/.560 112 |

Thanks guys it's interesting to see the different specs that different people use for different applications... I know little about cams and have been trying to learn over the past few years how duration, lift and LSA all effect each other.
Matt - have you put your on a chassis dyno yet? |

I'm using the XFI 280 cam in my 383. No problems, runs great with my Mseven tune.

No. I'm hoping once I get the injectors rebuilt and the tune finalized I will get a chance. Matthew |

I just sent my injectors off to Jon yesterday. I got a few weeks before I'll need them, but I wanted to have them ready when needed.

i would go with something with more lift then the cam you are talking about.. i had the xfi cam that josh has in my lt4 and it did a 8.19@90 with a 1.96 60ft in the 1/8th with shorties,4.10's and a mail order tune. i think that cam would be better with a different lsa. my current 385 has a bit larger 245/253 with .612/.612 on a 107 lsa but i dont think you'll want something that large of a duration.

It's a done deal now. I was just trying to see what other people are using. My engine builder feels very confident about our selection based on what the final goals are for the car. We have been through those questions, matter of fact we talked about the cam again today, and I'm good with it.

No expert, but I like the numbers. Should be easy to tune.

Ya, if I could go back I would probably go bigger. The only reason I have the 280 is because I ran it in the stock motor with TFS heads and the LT1 intake. When I did the 383 build, I couldn't afford another cam so I stuck with the 280. Don't get me wrong, I like it, and the car runs great, but I think you could go quite a bit bigger and not sacrifice much. How does your car act? To me, it seems like that cam would be on the upper limit of what you could make reasonably streetable. That's just a guess though, I've never had a cam that large or tried to tune (or more accurately, have Mick tune) for something like that. |

Can't remember my durations but my lift is 577/574 also with 1.6 RR.
I have 112* LSA with a little advance timing. Purrs like a kitten. Honestly, I wish it had a little more cam lope for a racing application Doesn't sound mean enough and drivability is not a concern. It is very drivable, BTW. |

Great cam choice Don. It is exactly what I would have recommended for your build.
Sure, more cam would make more power, but you will be pleased with the entire combination. PS: Your trans is complete. I sent you a few pics. |

I'm glad you didn't paint it pink! It looks nice all shiny and new. I won't know how to act with a transmission that actually shifts and feels like its not slipping and sliding. My Corvette buddies were calling it the "slush box". Not no more! |

i got to drive it with the tune for my old setup and injectors and it wasn't that bad at all but i think the maf was picking up the pace for the tune. it would be wayyy better off in a stalled auto cause for now it seems surge quite a bit on the bottom when going under 10mph but the power instantly poors in and its almost too aggressive. the reason its so big is to bleed of the compression ratio for pump gas. but even when its not running right it still pulls like a freight train. it is probably more then you would want to go if you actually needed to drive the car.

That cam should run real smooth and be easy to tune in your 383.
I'm running a 224/230(.050),605/622(1.6),112+2 LSA in my 350 and it is pretty mild sounding with no bucking even at low rpms. |
