Good Morning CGs!

Well, I'm nice and rested (I think?) after my long weekend. Although it involved three days straight of parties, I think I got a chance to unwind a little last night. Stopped by the neighbor's house for a bit and had a couple adult beverages and snacked on some food left over from their party on Sat night.

Got to see the folks this weekend and they had lots of time to spend with the baby. Not sure when the next time will be. I'd like to make it back to MI some time early this year, but I hate going when it's cold out. And it's darn cold outside. I am not liking this. When will it be summer????

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Well it sure is brisk for SoFlo. Starting at about 40. Possible freeze warnings Tuesday night. I like a little winter weather and I mean little. We had to make a run to the plant nursery last night and put a half dozen cold sensitive trees indoors. Freeze warnings usually means midnight runs to turn on irrigation pumps and keep the plants from getting freeze burn. It's really no joke. Freezes have cost us several hundred thousand in inventory losses over the past decade and that was with insurance. Summer performance tires don't stick well in cold weather either. Today I plan to dig back into my vinyl archives and clean up the house while listening to old favorites. All pets have had to come inside because of the weather. 10 tortoises, the potbellied pig and the usual insiders, the 2 dogs and Harry the bird. Have a good day Gurus.

Morning guys....Back to school today. It was a bit hard to get out of bed this morning as I've been sleeping in. But it won't take too long to get back into the swing of things. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be pretty nice...for winter in Kansas, high 30's and lower 40's, but we are headed to the deep freeze later this week -5*F predicted for Thursday night and a high of 8 on Friday.

Right back at you on the good day Tommy....

It's going to be a looooooooooooong work week, after a couple of nice short ones. Gonna be tough, but at least it's indoors.

Damn... Just watching the Weather Channel... it's cold everywhere else!

It looks like the Pacific Southwest is the only part of the country that is warm right now. It was 75 yesterday, and 54 right now. It is supposed to be into the mid-70s again today.

Personally, from a weather standpoint, the east coast is being set up for a HUGE snow storm. Once the cold gets into place, all bets are off.

This means Nor'East'r... And that means that the next storm to form up down in AZ/NM means devistation to the South Central US and up the Eastern Seaboard. Mark my words.

Oh, and this is all caused by global warming, right?

Otherwise, back to work today...

The sun's back out here finally, thought I was living on the east coast fo the last month. Snow's been on the ground for a month which ain't normal.
Temps are back too, upper 40s, which, with the solar gain takes the living room up to 75 with the heat off. The sun's intense here, yesterday I had to keep cracking the windows down because it would get too hot in the pickup.
At least I get to run the C4 today.

Tommy, watch those plants $$$$$$, in Napa Valley they have foggers and sprinkler systems above the vines. Somehow, if you coat the vines with ice, it keeps them from freezing, go figure.

A wild horse roundup starts here today, just too many horses here competing for food. They'll hold them and give away the healthy ones to horse lovers that'll take care of them.

Ya Bill, the ice protects them. That's why we run the sprinklers. Also the ground water is warmer than the air temps.
My wife and brother in law were just in the local paper yesterday. First three paragraphs. Here's the scoop.

The ice insulates them... they can't get any colder than 32F that way. Neat trick, eh?

The ice forms a protective layer on the leaves. There will still be leaf damage but the plants generally survive and start new growth. January and February are the months we have to keep a close eye on low temperatures. Did you know there are palm trees that can withstand snowy and frigid weather? You don't see the immediate effects of frost damage. It takes a few days till all the leaves drop off. Not a pretty sight and a big pain in the wallet.
