So, I got hit by malware last week, JrRifleCoach & CC helped me get rid of it.
But my laptop was stilled screwed up. Jr generously offered some online help.
Wouldn't you know that 15 minutes before he called, the f__kin' harddrive self distructed.

Had to go on dialup for the last 2 days.

Just went to Best Buy, bought a Toshiba for $399.
2.2 gig processor
4g memory
320g harddrive
15.6 in. High Definition screen.

Yea, I bought almost the cheapest but it's nice.

AND, yesterday, I got pissed and took $20 to the casino, won $460 and paid cash for the laptop, hee, hee.

Had the same exact thing happen a few weeks ago. I wound up with an Acer. Similar specs, but this one has a 17.3 HD screen, Dolby home theater, and a webcam. $500 out the door, and the guy at Stapes gave me 2 weeks no questions asked, to return it.
No way though. I love it.
Having a bitch of a time getting the i-Tunes back to normal.

Bill, Pete, what type and how old of computer is the old one? Are you interested in getting rid of it. Maybe I can put a new drive in it and use it. ????

The wifey thought of the same thing. She doen't have one, so she is going to order a replacement hard drive.

I've been seriously considering getting a new laptop myself. Also get an upgraded harddrive and plenty of RAM.

That's a great price, Bill. I had to refix the BIL's laptop the other day, power supply still having problems. Plug is completely replaced now. We've replaced the charger 3 times. It's now down to the charger again or a new motherboard. Dell charger is like $80, dell motherboard is like $300. I can get a new offbrand motherboard for like $100. I've had that thing apart so many times I think it will self-destruct if I take it apart again. I'm ready to tell them to just buy a new one. It's not worth putting $100 into a laptop that's 4 years old. Eventhough it was like $800 new, you can buy a comparable one now like you did for $400. The old one might become my new tuning laptop

I just bought a little HP Mini from Verizon before I went to Georgia. It cost $199 after rebate with their $35 broadband service plan. I use it everywhere. Its pretty cool little laptop and if I can't access a wi-fi spot I have the Verizon network to jump on.

Yea, chuck it and move on. I would have had at least $200 in parts and labor, so it's a no brainer.

At 4 years, a laptop is ready to erupt.
I had company provided laptops since they first came out. They all went south after about 3 years, HP, IBM, Compaq.

Unless you are a heavy gamer, paying over $500 for one is a waste.
