I went to the Queen Mary today and took few pictures. The ghost show sucked, used to be better. There is a lot of history in The Queen Mary. Found a bar on the "A" deck and on the Promenade Deck. A great place to go if you got nothing to do.

Dome used to house the Spruce Goose.

I enjoyed touring the QM back in 2007. Thought it was pretty neat. I would stay there if I had any desire to go back to Cali.

Two Scots carpenters that I apprenticed for worked on the Queen Mary when she was being refitted after serving as a troop ship during WWII. By coincidence Cunard White Star Lines had a booking office in the building we worked in downtown Chicago so we had had plenty of their cast off pictures hanging in the carpenter shop. Here's one I saved of the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.

neat... I have lived here in Torrance for 6 years and still haven't gotten back to the Queen.

I sailed her in 1966 to (or from, not sure) England - I was only 11 months old at the time!

My dad rode the Queen when it was a troop ship during WWII. My brothers and Mom sailed it other times. The boat has a lot of history for my family...

In a way, I have been saving the visit for when my brother and his wife come to visit.

Neat pics!!!

A little trivia... the convoys going across the ocean were limited to the speed of the slowest ship... the thing is, the Queen could flat out get it going on! Try over 40 knots at full song. Well... according to my late father, when there was a verified uboat sighting, the Queen could hit all ahead full and leave the slower ships, bringing perhaps a fast destroyer (I would hope) and protect the Queen.

The thought of losing the Queen and 10k+ troops was more than they could risk....

I will say this: With all the documentaries I have seen on the North Atlantic convoy system, I have never heard that story validated... did it happen? Can't say... could it have happened? Yea, it's possible.

Yep it was 1977 when the HC-1 was still under the dome. Before that it was hangared not too far away off of Pier E LB harbor. Some of my college instructors were constructors of that plane. It was always an earful when they would break into "war stories" during classes. One of those old guys actually had his pilots license signed by one of the Wright Bros.

I was on that ship back in the 90's when some old friends got married on it. Big boat with a ton of history for sure !

I was surprised to learn its not floating there at dock, but they actually sunk it right where it sits.
