No, I'm not asking about the Hyundai, I took CC's banning warning to heart.

I'm going to replace the FPR with my injectors. Should I use an adjustable FPR. My car is stock, I doubt it matters much.

Second, one of the guys at my shop said if I really want to wake my car up, I'd put new gears in the rear. I mentioned 3:43, and he thought 3:73 would be better. I have a stock, a4 87 coupe. I thought 3:73 was too much for that car to push? Thoughts on that one?

IMO - An adjustable FPR on a stock engine offers you nothing except the capability to get your fuel pressure out of wack.

The reason he says 3.73 - is because it's most commonly availiable aftermarket gear ratio for the D36 which comes in A4 trans C4 Corvettes. To put a 3.45 in your car you would have to buy a D44 out of a M6 trans C4 Corvette. 3.73 gear will be no problem unless you plan on crusing the Auto Bahn everyday.

First find out if you have the 2.59 ratio or the performance 3.07. If you have the 3.07 then you are good for a street driven car. If you have the 2.59 then watch for a D36 with 3.07 ratio in the 4sale section of CF. To just swap rears vs rebuilding is the cheapest way to go.

Then you are good unless you want to take it on the track. If you want to 'wake it up' then look into intake and exhauust mods.

I agree 100% on both counts. An adjustable FPR is really pretty much a waste with stock injectors.

And you WILL notice the difference with a 3.73 rear end compared to the 3.07. Sure you'll burn more gas, but fun has it's price LOL

If your car is an auto., at 3000rpm's in 4th you will be doing 103 with the 3.08 and only 85 with the 3.73. At 2500, it's 86mph and 71 respectively. I would think about a 20% drop in mpg. Pretty big diff.

40 to 50 horse by opening these up. I'm thinking that would help out a lot.

FWIW there is no such thing as a new 3.45 replacement, at least not at a price you'd be willing to pay. If you want a 3.45 it'll have to be used. In which case you might as well buy the whole pumpkin, sell yours, and avoid the setup costs altogether.

Thanks for doing the math, sounds about right (though I wouldn't go as far as a 20% drop in mileage, maybe 10%), still...

My '66 Nova was turning 3000 rpm at about 65 mph, she had a 4.11 rear (with a 327), talk about get up and go LOL

Like I said before, fun has it's price! :-)

Why not 3.55s? Seems like as high as you can go without really killing mpg.

I lost 2-3 mpg from 2.59 to 3.07 for a comparison.
