I ordered a set myself . I have talked to a fiberglass man
and he said the custom work would be easy for him. I am going to make a template the exact size of the lights and place them on the hood to find the best location . trace the outline then check the undeside for depth and obstructions. Use a high speed cutting tool like a smatt router or dremel type tool , probably use a diamond type rotary blade for a clean cut . I wouldn't use a blade type tool , they tend to splinter fiberglass and cut at a slower speed . After the openings are cut I will have the fiberglass man make a nice finished edge and fill in any portions that may need it . then paint the hood . then set the lights inplace mark the mounting points and epoxy threaded studs to the underside and bolt in place.
I have done work on boats and this work takes time but is not hard . The electrical part , that is easy for me I'm an electrician . I would love to see all of your finished products . I will be posting mine when I get the project done .

Good to see others following the trend.

The past week my area got 16+ inches in a span of 3 days. Living in the country means waiting for the ground to dry out.

I will start cutting on my hood this weekend and next week.

I am also working on opening the lights. I think 5-10min @ 150* should get the glue melted enough to pull apart.

What are the approximate dimensions of the unit?
Length X Width, thanks.
They look quite a bit larger than the stock openings.

I am curious about alignment, too.

Are the mounting surface angles on the FIAT simular to the mounting surface angle on the hood of the C4?

Looking at pictures of the Fiat 20VT the hood angles seem to be close , the fiat looks like it sits higher . the light bulb system must be adjustable enough to compensate
for the difference if any in the hood angles .

This is the first time I have found this forum although I have seen pictures of these lights before. Looks like the design they should have had from the factory. The fiberglass work necessary seems a little prohibitive though.

cut a template out of cardboard tonight. Will take the camera out when I start drawing and cutting.

Im going to mount both headlights before starting on the ss style vent. That looks to be the biggest issue at the moment with my fabrication skills but it will be a learning process.

The lights are approximately 16 inches long by 10inches at the farthest. I will get a better measure tomorrow as well.

Ok so really started today.
This is a 87 hood I picked up out of Austin for $300. It was prettier but by no means nice. This is with 45 mins with a chisel.

This is my template that I will start cutting with tonight.

As for dimensions here are some better but Im limited on measuring devices.

from corner to level with the farthest corner was 14in

for the length I just measured the side. Came out to 20in at the tab

Height was around 5-6 inches that will be below the hood line

projection light technology a) didn't exist in 1980 (when the C4 was being designed) and if it did, b) would apply, meaning, illegal in the USA.

Started cutting.

Have to go pretty deep so a longer jigsaw blade would help.

Rough cut ready to prep.

Can see some bracing inside of the brace.

Can see here its nearly a perfect fit.

Will try to get the notches made to sit the light into place.

In front of the light will be about 2 inches but a I plan to cut the piece above and just glass it in and fill whatever else. I can get everything close and my body guy will make it perfect.

Sidenote I ordered my fiberglass SS scoop today off ebay. Hoping to finish up the light holes by the end of october early november. Then i will cut the middle of the hood out.

I have also decided I want the 91-96 front bumper so Ill be adding that on at the same time. Calling Zip tomorrow to ask how much I am gonna dish out. Money is tight but I think I can pull it off by Janaury-March.

Also adding in a push button start when my switch comes in.

Do the lights have to sit that far up on the hood that you had to cut 3+ inches away from nose of car?

I did it that way to have more material up front. Plus I like it more. I can be dont much close to the bumper.

The back will need to be raised to make the light sit correctly. This weekend is the texas mile so there likely wont be much progress. Might cut the hood friday for the scoop tho.

Geeze that looks like a lot of work with those headlights! I'd be concerned about cracking around them with all the cutting, bending, and reworking. What are your thoughts on that?

extra bracing is bing added and will have many layers of fiberglass added. All bending was done very slowly with a heat gun.
The hood has VERY little fiberglass in it to begin with. Its mostly resin it seems.

I just traced the light and did a rough cut with a jig. Then fit the light in and trimmed to fit.

The material will be heavily bonded together. Shouldnt be a problem.

It is somewhat on the back burner due to the new el camino but still have plans for it to get done.

The wheels on my car are MO MO's I painted them black but now i have changed them to Silver (trying out different colors before i commit to powder coat)

I have my Head light holes 80% done and hopefully will have it in paint in a few weeks.

It was allot of work and i think i went a different route than most guys I mounted mine a little lower using the old headlight holes ad the bottom corner. I used a cutting wheel and a jig saw to make the holes larger.

I then used Duct tape and cardboard as a Temp frame and used fiberglass to create the new shape.

A crap load of sanding and re shaping, more sanding,More fiberglass, more sanding and so on

I am now working on a way to mount them I have a few ideas I will post Pics soon with a detailed step by step.

Which edge are you using? The front is what I am using so I had to raise the back for a flush fit. If you use the back It looks as if the headlights will be pointing towards the ground.
