So, I'm going to redo the kitchen cabinets & countertop.
It's a small kitchen and just want decent cabinets but better than what HD & Lowes have on the shelves (they are crap).

So, Lowes is $3,200 but they have a $400 discount if you buy 10 cabinets at mone that $2,500, so $2,800 to me.

HD, we'll do that and right now we also have 10% off.
So, $2,520.

Lowes, We'll match that and I find out that their are semi custom lengths so I won't have to use any filler strips at the end of the cabinets where they meet the wall.

HD, we'll throw in a free sink base ($220) so, $2,300.

Lowes, if you change the door's to these - $2,150 but that's below the $2,500 to qualify for thr $400 off so you'll have to find $350 in options to get to $2,500 and we'll take the $400 off, so $2,100.

HD, ya know next week a new promotion starts- free sink base, free finish upgrade (glaze), free double cutlery drawer, and free hardware (which is over $100)

Funny thing is now they are lower in price than the crap cabinets that they stock.

BTW these cabinets are maple, full hardwood doors and drawerfronts, dovetailed hardwood drawers, etc.

If you look at the cabinets that they stock, the drawers are just stapled together.

Schweet - pretty soon they'll be giving them away! Sounds like a nice deal for some decent cabinets.

Yea, I figure if I make 20 more trips, they'll pay me $100 to take them.

I will have to dig up some pics, but my Mom did the cabinets in her house about 20 years ago. She had them done by a local Amish craftsman, in real hardwoods. Lovely pieces. One wall was all cabinate, except for the stove and dishwasher. That was a lot of cabinets! Considering the kitchen was 15 wide and 12 deep.

Across the kitchen, there was a chimney from a prior heater install (really old house). The chimney was covered in drywall and a custom hutch was buit into that corner - some 24" deep and 40" wide. On the otherside of the chimey, upto the door leading to the dining room was another 2 element sideboard. It had 2 sets of doors and a pair of drawers.

All of that cost just at $4k.

I'd say it's about time to pull the trigger, Bill. It can't go down forever and seems like you did a good job of bargaining.

Mmmmm, sounds good Bill, but what it they have after Christmas deals? You know how slow it is then for sales. Just thought I'd throw that in.

Ha,Ha, no I'm almost done.

I do have to get 3 sample doors from Lowes today, bring them up to the house to compare the color to my existing wood work,

The final deal is the free hardware at HD (Lowes will probably match). Those pulls & knobs can add up. They're $4 to $15 each.

3 trips to each store saved me about $1k so, it was worth it.

I wonder how many trips it would have been if I was married???

Yea, I'll do some pics but it will be a while, 4 weeks leadtime on the cabinets.

Next weel, I'm going to start hassling the granite guys.

Get the good draw mechanisms, too. The slow catch draws and such. They really empart a sense of quality to the cabinets.

Granite has the look but yikes the money! There were some other disadvantages also so we went with high end formica and like the look and saved a bunch too. It will be interesting to me what you think after you talk to your rock guys.

It would have been 10 trips, trust me on that one.

The rock guys are hungry.
My kitchen is U shapes, one U is standard 24 deep witha an 18 x 24 L on one end. The other side is a pain because I need an island piece cut down to 29 inches (with an 18 x 24 L on one end).

It's about 39 sq.ft. The modest looking is at $1,500 right now. But I'll probably upgrade to a more exciting granite so, I'm looking at $1,800.

If I decide to sell the house later on, it almost has to be stone. It's just the nature of the area of town I'm in.
