I'm getting ready to re-install my knock sensors in the morning. They were new last engine build. (5K miles or so). They have some of the original orange/red thread sealer on them. Are you sure its ok to install them without additional thread sealer? I have read where no additional thread sealer is needed. I just want to double check.

I've had mine out a few times and have never added any thread sealer, just whatever was on there.

it's not sealer... it's anti-seize.

More isn't gonna hurt.

I've had mine out twice and didn't add anything.

But, I did use a torque wrench.

Oh, the flashbacks to my adventure with a stuck knocksensor stud in the block. Extremely painful if you guys remember! Finally had to take it to the local garage on the lift to have it taken out.

Antiseize...really? I thought it was thread sealer as well. I should use the antiseize and then torque to spec?

I'll have to respectfully disagree with Andy.
I think it's sealer.
And these are pipe threads so, be careful torquing them. Plus using antisieze would require a 30 to 50% reduction in the torque spec.

The knock sensor is one of several that do not get sealant. If needed use a little toward the very base of the sensor so the beginning threads are uncoated and can make a good ground.

Pay special to the torque spec. As I *recall*, it can be the cause of other problems.

The ones on my 95 are stuck, I was on a hurry because I had a run to Lone Pine so I left it alone and just added new Dexcool and water. One of these days I'll need to use a pipe wrench to get them out. One of these days...

The knock sensors use sealant and torqued.

I use a socket and 1/2 in. breaker bar to loosen the first 1/8th turn with a lot of pressure on the socket with my left hand.

When you do it, stick a hose nozzle in the hole and blast it, you'll be amazed at the crap that comes out.

Mine have been out twice reusing the factory sealant, torqued, no leaks.

14ft.lbs is, like nothing. I did 14 but could not resist to give it a pinch more.

It's pipe thread, 14 & a pinch will do.

I've heard of guys using a little teflon tape or sealant to reduce the sensitivity of the KS, but that's bubbafied.
