Rise and shine.

Good morning.

I remember as a kid thinking about the future and how marvelous it would be. Flying cars, jet packs, computerized everything, space travel, ray guns, a world without money; Pretty much that's what came to be only not on a large scale. Instead the big winners were thin panel, big screen HDTVs and cellphones that operate like a mobile computer. We have lost much to these devices. The world is not as it was and we're never gonna get it back. Society runs amok, America's vision is myopic. We are the victims of our visions. Lost in a large scale are things that don't even cost a dime. Things like respect, pride in accomplishment, loyalty, sharing, compassion, endurance and the list goes on. The self absorbed young minions will take over an out of control, free spending, destined to collapse shell of a home we used to proudly call The United States of America. I truly wish it isn't or wasn't so but if the past is any indication of our future, the future is not so bright. So I'll live well today, to the best of my ability, I'll think of the good things and reminice. Maybe jump in one of the cars and go for a nice ride and let my hair blow in the wind. Life is good if nowhere else but in my mind.

Good morning.....that's the way to pump us up this morning Tommy, now I'm ready to face the year. Was up until the new year hit, then I went to bed straight away. Not much planned today.

The next post is where some visionary should place a well thought out, drum banging, angels singing, "What A Wonderful World" post. That all will be well ........ in the Land of Oz.

Gee I was pretty pumped up about 2012 till I read Tommy's post........ I agree that we have lost our way as a Nation but it will turn around........at our very core we will fight to the death to protect our freedoms....like our Fathers did....

Out here in the heartlands things are still in some semblence of order. We work hard and help our neighbors and try to raise our kids to respect others. We also teach them to respect the Nation and the men and women who died to give us the freedoms that we enjoy today.

At our house we try and emphisize the Japanese term Wabi-Sabi meaning "appreciating the simple and letting go of the superficial". (Corvettes and Harleys are not considered superficial)

I agree that overall our Nation is caught up in whatever it is that it's caught up in, which was mostly brought on by us boomers, but that does not mean we have to live our lives that way.

Enjoy what you have, figure out that simple pleasures are the best and do what you can to help others less fortunate. That is a mantra for any year..........

Today Church and more work on the C5. I am changing spark plugs. One of the stock spark plug wires just came apart in my hands as I tugged on it. I am using the GMPP red wires and the Iridium plugs.

Have a great day off Guru's......

That is it in a nutshell - many people are so self-absorbed that they don't have any common courtesy whatsoever. It seems I mutter "Well efff you, too" a lot nowadays. And if I hold a door for someone, they seem genuinely surprised.

I need coffee. Happy New Year! ;-)

I'm glad I grew up when I did, when men were men and women were....OOPS, wrong train of thought.

I'm glad I grew up when new car introductions were highly anticipated.

With a few exceptions, new cars have been boring since 1980.

Except of course, the new Kias with the speakers that light up and pulse to the music.

It's the way of the world. I have a really tough time dealing with the kids today, because they have no work ethic. I try my darnedest to instill some of that in my classes. I really think that I make some headway.

Happy New Year Gurus. Been busy lately and never had a chance to wish the gurus a Merry Christmas.
I'm glad 2011 is over and optimistic about 2012.
Like Tommy so eloquently stated about our fasination as young kids what would happen to us as we grew older. Innocence mixed with imagination made our hopes for the future exciting. I always wanted to be a Police Officer or Firefighter or maybe a Fighter Pilot. Our imagination was our key and the future was the lock that we had the guts to
explore. Todays kids have no imagination or drive to test their limits except in a video world. Like TB I gave my students their best shot at being a success only to have them drop the ball and take the easy way out! usually drugs, gangs and violence.

Yeah but you both did what you were supposed to do. At some point they have to take the ball and run with it.......

Years down the road you guys may get the chance to see that you made a difference in a lot of kids lives......

I now that I've made difference in some lives already. It's just that, like Marcus pointed out, sometimes you don't know for years. My luck has been in having some of these people coming and letting me know at key points in my life to keep me going. Knowing that you make a difference in peoples lives is what education is all about.
