This is interesting... But the way Putin is marketed in Russia is very different and very intentional.

The Russian culture appreciates a manly-man. All assertive ans strong and such. When Clinton was dipping his wick in Monica, the Russians feeling was that of impressed; this was a real leader we can associate with.

You don't think we would prefer a "manly man"? Certainly not my #1 requirement, but geez...

We historically always liked "manly men" up until shortly after WWII. Then it turned into the age of JFK, etc.

Look how many presidents were war heroes, etc.

not as many as you think...

I acknowledge Bush I's service, but don't call him a "hero'. Same with Carter (USN). I have better luck calling JFK a war hero.

Eisenhower... Teddy Roosevelt... then you go way back to US Grant. Now, prior to Grant, we had many ... Taylor, Tyler, Jackson... Washington and Jefferson.

By the mid-19th century, we realized that the nation needed intellectual leadership. Not some ex GI.

Well, we could use a leader now.

Unfortunately, I don't see any floating around D.C.

I don't know if you misread what I wrote? After the age of JFK is when the trend changed. That was largely in part due to television and people were picking candidates (ie, JFK) based on appearance rather than content.

I hate getting into political conversations...mostly because you can't make everyone happy and there really isn't a middle ground for safety with the exception of just keeping one's mouth frig'n shut...

...but, I don't see a need for a certain mold the pres needs to fit in. Simply, I don't think they really have the power or final decision in anything. He might sit in the nig chair but there are a lot of people pushing and making his decisions for him.
