Good Morning CGs!

So after some technical difficulties yesterday everything seems to be up and running.

I just saw on the news that someone in Rhode Island won the 325 million dollar powerball jackpot. That's a lot of coin. Obviously I didn't win...lol. Oh well, what would I do with all that money, anyway?

I also saw on yahoo news that Whitney Houston was found dead. She was only 48 years old. A bit of a shock there. I knew she had some drug problems over the years, but I don't think anyone expected that.

We have a Christening to head to tonight. Extended family through marriage, but someone we see at just about every family party. Young kid, but he should do ok.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Good morning Guru Nation......nice to talk with you again. Clear and -4 here.....what we call brisk.

Yeah Matt all that money would just ruin your life....unless you let the power of the Guru help you in deciding how to spend it.........and on who......

Very sad about Whitney Houston....I will always remember her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl so many years ago. Drugs and poor choices along the way maybe contributed to her early passing.

Church today and naps but I really want to drive my car somewhere but doubt that will happen.

Have a good day off Guru's!

Good morning guys....I'm up early so I could lay down the adhesive for the tiles. The tiles I'm putting down require a special adhesive. It has to sit an hour or more before you can start laying the tile, so I got up early and put it down and after church (in about a half hour, it will be ready to start laying. Should have it all down in 45 minutes.

Drugs usually win in the end. She did have a wonderful voice.

I won $2 on the SuperLotto last week.

I took $20 to the casino yesterday, got up $100 but couldn't get rolling, came home at + $10.

At least NHRA starts today.

Good morning, cold but sunny here in South Carolina. Little pond we have froze overnight.

On that note, my son has been accepted to the Univ. of South Dakota. I know some of you guys live near that area of the country. I think he's nuts going to Vermillion(?). Do we need to get him an all wheel or 4 wheel drive? He''s driving a Miata right now and with snows they get along ok but not great.

On that same note, he told me he does not want to go to the Univ. South Carolina branch in Hilton Head as he does not like the warm weather. Ooookay! Wondering about this kid. What can you say to that?

Howdy! I guess I can leave my Powerball ticket in the drawer. Very sad about Whitney, indeed - a shame for someone with so much talent to die so young. Tom, you're gonna have to post some pics of your project.

Enjoy your day, everybody!

All wheel drives are OK, 4 wheel drives (usually a pickup,SUV) sit up a bit higher. A Suby-roo probably would do him well.

I have a one wheel drive Silverado that blows thru a foot of snow (as long as I don't stop on a hill ).

Snow out here is a bit different than on the east coast, we don't measure it in inches, we measure it in feet.

The big problem with people in 4 wheel drives is they don't realize that the brakes aren't any better than a 2 wheel drive.

I strongly suggest a winter "kit" in the car, warm, waterproof clothing, boots, gloves. Flashlight, folding shovel even a backpack meal, etc.
I've seen many flatlanders stuck on Donner Summit wearing freekin' sneakers, shivering their butts off waiting for rescue.

Good advice! This winter he probably could've gotten by with the Miata, but that is not the norm.

Hit the nail on the head!! He hates the humidity.

I was thinking Subaru as well. Looking at a couple of them in the junkyards this weekend to see how difficult the motor looks. It seems its a boxer design(?)

I know what you mean about 4x4's and the overexuberance of their drivers.

Has it been mild this year as well? Flowers were blossoming out here.

We had 5 times more snow last year than this year, and have only been below zero a handful of times this season. My new snowblower I bought in the fall still looks pristine ;-)

That is very funny!!! Not for the money spent on the snowblower though!

I gotta say, living here has been nice. I'm from the midwest, originally, but having been stationed all over, this is better than Virginia.

Then he'll love the Dakotas, I found out how nice the lack of humidity is when I went to collage in Colorado.

Even better here, I start to freek when it gets to 25% now.

The only Subys I've been in were on the racetrack but the seem to be fairly reliable.

Ya Ralf..tell him to come on out but he will have to go on out to Black Hills State at Spearfish if he wants to escape the humids.....It won't be as bad in Vermillion as where you guys are at but pivot irrigation has changed the overall humidity levels in our country over the last 20 or so years. Sioux Falls and Sioux City, Yankton, Gavins Point Dam.....It's a busy area of the State.

He may come out in a Suby but he will be going back in one of these I'm thinking............

Cool days ahead. Mid 40's low, low 60's high. Very, very nice and sunny to boot. Went up to Hollywood (FL) with a donation to a charity we give to every year. Pots, dirt and plants. The kids paint the pots, plant one plant per pot and a patron ships it in a container on a ship to Isreal with other goods. Came home and weeded the potted plants out back. Now I'm utilizing my buttocks over the next several hours. Tomorrow I'm dropping off the refurbished kevlar clutch plates, with the newly machined intermediate clutch plate and a few other clutch parts. If all is well the rebuilding will begin on the 928. Probably will be buying another 928 parts car and a couple of reupholstered front seats from the guy that owns the clutch shop. He made me an offer that's hard to turn down $1400 for the lot with a slavage title for the car. Complete except for the lower front air dam. It's an auto though. Lot's of usable, interchangable parts. I could take what I want and part out the rest or just save it for when I need it. Just what I need. Another car.

You aren't kidding - on our big cross-country trip in 2005 we got caught unexpectedly in snow in western Montana. 2003 'vert, stock summer tires, not even an ice scraper.

I managed to get out of the Best Western parking lot and onto Interstate 90. We put the emergency flashers on and matched speed with the tractor trailers - about 35 mph. SUVs are flying by us to the left.

Over the next several miles we pass not one, not two, but three of those same SUVs - crashed on either the median or the side of the road.

I did the same thing in Wyoming drivin' a pos U-haul with the 67 on an open trailer, 2 days at a Hoilday Inn then drove 17 hours straight thru to Reno.

Got stuck on Donner Summit in a Ford Taurus (company car) for 9 1/2 hours cause an idiot in a SUV caused a big rig to jack-knife. That time, I had the "winter kit" and was nice and cozy.

But not as scary as towing a 24 ft. race trailer with an Excursion with chains on the Excursion and chains on the trailer. The trailer weight wants to push you in funny ways goin' downhill.

I think we'll definitely have to get him a winter kit together. That dually is great, but if the 6.0 Ford, its trouble. Even the later ones have issues.
My Dodge Dually Megacab diesel is great, but the ancillary systems are garbage!
Also, Ford has a lock on interior appointments.

It was cold here today. But, no humidity!

BTW, not familiar with that thinset on the tile job. Did you check on the John Bridge forum to see what the long term effects are?

From my step mother

The Classmate

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD.

WELL . . . YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE.

MY NAME IS ALICE , AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST.

I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA ON THE WALL, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 40-ODD YEARS AGO.

COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN ?

UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT.

THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.

AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL .

'YES. YES, I DID.. I'M A MUSTANG,' HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE ?' I ASKED.

HE ANSWERED, 'IN 1975. WHY DO YOU ASK ?'

YOU WERE IN MY CLASS !', I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.

THEN, THAT UGLY,

OLD,

BALD,

WRINKLED FACED,

FAT-ASSED,

GRAY-HAIRED,

DECREPIT,

SON-OF-A-BITCH

ASKED,

'WHAT DID YOU TEACH ???
