I would've given my left nut for an opportunity like that when I was a young man.(Sounding like an old fart.)
Are young workers today really that stupid?

Yes they are. I would much rather have a job like this vs current one. There was another story about employers wanted to hire the older generation. Due to the younger generation being lazy. Although I am younger I have been working full time for 15yrs. I have missed a total of five days due to sickness where I have had to call in.

I was just talking about this with a friend yesterday...no one wants to get in to the trades anymore. It will be in demand sooner than you think.

That is why we need all the spanish Americans.....they are not afraid to get their hands dirty and are thankful for a good job to feed their families. Most kids nowdays want to make a living with their computer sitting at home in their peejays.......

I fight this all the time. The state of Kansas is beginning to see the light. I hope it's not too late. They are starting to push for vocational education, but there are caveat's with the push. Guys like me are getting older, retiring and there's no one to replace us. My enrollment has struggled for the last 7-8 years. Kids just don't want to work that hard. They would rather sit behind a desk and do nothing. It just not cool to work with your hands.

on the news today: New research out indicates that playing active video games is not the same as outdoor exercise. Researchers say that active video games are no substitute for outdoor exercise.

Now the question here: Should parents send their lids out for exercise ---NOooooooo, that's not the question.

The question here is: WTF is someone sitting around (and getting paid) thinking: "Ya know, we should do a study to see if video games produce as much exercise as basketball.". bandhead

The other question is: Why didn't the newsy say "Well,duh.".

Why don't young people want to go into the trades? There's no touchscreen !!!!!!!

That exercise story is recycled like all the news stories today. Some clown is paid to rewrire the news of yesterday with a fresh new look. It's still old news. Those factory jobs could be a great opportunity for the welfare moms. Good News ... We've found you a training program and will assist you with finding daycare for your children that you can easily afford.

Or for minor criminal offences.

Judge: I sentence you to a two year job training program at XYZ Corporation.

Employment office: Your in luck this week Mr.Schmoozer. Report to XYZ Corp for job training.

Cruel and unusual punishment? I think not.

In past generations, the Chinese, Italians, Irish, Polish and others all busted their ass to make something of themselves and support the family. It was not easy peasy but they did it. I could go on and on but it would serve no purpose.

The newseys said the report just came out.

I think the clowns are propably the researchers.

Recycled research? Now that wouldn't be supprising, especially if it was government funded.

Sometimes sitting on it can produce results.

Already got it.
I have the tomatoes growing, the cornbread sucks and the dogs love the prayer rug. I put the smoke machine in my closet as my wife blows enough smoke up my ass already. Got more KFC coupons in the mail today and the only bumper sticker I need would say CORVETTEGURU.COM. The instructions were confusing so I had one of the crew members translate them for me.

Got everything covered.

Being an employee of a manufacturing company, I have a different take on the article in the OP's post. American manufacturing is having trouble attracting young people into the toolroom because of one big pitfall. They hire in a young girl/guy and pay minimum+ wage. Soon they expect them to start buying tools that will eventually add up to thousands of dollars. For me, my gage blocks from ICC cost over $1800 new. That was ten years ago. Last year I needed 4 new digital micrometers that cost over $800. My set goes up to 6" max., and I need duplicates of some of the smaller sizes. My dial test indicators cost over $150 each now, and I need 4. My digimatic digital indicator was $450+ ten years ago, and so on. When new people see the amount of committment needed they tend to shy away. Especially where I work.

Where I work, they say if you think you're important, put your hand into a bucket of water. Then pull it out as fast as you can and watch the water come together.
You've just seen how long it takes to replace you.

Who wants to invest in a large set of individually expensive tools knowing this is what they think of you, all the while they expect your undying loyalty.

Thanks for the inside perspective Bob. It's easy to critisize from the outside looking in. At least, all your job related purchases should be tax deductable. In many career fields the employee is responsible for their own tools.

I just talked to my dad about this. He wants to know the address for all these job openings because he can't find them. I think the article is overplaying the availability of jobs.
