I was rootin' thru a box of pics and found this.

In 1974, I was putting on a Corvette show in Pa. with my club.
A guy pulled this in, said he paid $1,800 for it.

Back then $1800 would have taken me about 4 months to save up. It would take me one month today.

1800
x4
----
7200

So ... That means I should be able to buy that car for around $7200. now. I'm sure I could but it would probably look more like this.

There is a guy I know outside of Reno that has a hardtop similar to the one you posted. He's doing a nut and bolt full restoration.
It will look in as good a shape as that one someday. Maybe I could talk him into selling it to me when it's all done for $7200.

Ah, young Grasshopper, methinks you do not recognise the car.

If I'm not mistaken that was specially built and presented to a Corvette icon.

Bill Mitchell and Harley Earl each had one like that. I remember the Harley Earl car sold a couple years ago for close to a million bucks.

Yea, there's a question on which one it is.

Possibily Harleys.

$1,800 when I saw it. In '83 offered to one of the NCRS guys @ $40k.

One on the NCRS guys just posted that the knows the owner that brought it to my show.

If it was Bunkie Knudsen's car (which I don't think it is), It sold in 2010 for $400k.

If it was Harley's - $925,000.

1800 in the 70s for a 10 year old car. Oh well. I bet that was a lot then. I dunno, I wasn't around then. But when some guys were making what, $4 an hour, I bet that was still a decent amount.

My 63 fuelie was $1,300 Matt.
My 67 was $3,000

in 1984, I was packing to move to Reno, broke,,,,

A guy in our club wanted $10k for a 67 Coupe, 400 horse(3-2's with a hyd. cam), knockoffs, sidepipes, a/c , shoulderbelts & headrests. 20k miles in show condition.

I still think about that car at least once a month.

So you can buy a ZR1 now for 15,000 k. That's still cheap money by today's standards. What will it be worth in 2040? No one knows! Same as your 63 and 67. Back then it was a used car. Nothing more, nothing less.

How much did you make an hour in 1974? 1984?

Early 80's I had a chance at a Nassau blue 67 427 roadster. It was 390 hp I believe. 2 tops matching interior....the guy did not want to sell very bad but he did say if he could get $8,000 he would part with it.......I thought that was way to steep.......not that I had the money.

I do remember his wife saying that they heard that the big blocks were going to be worth some money someday.....she was right.

My dad had a new Doctorate in Agronomy back in the late 60's and was making 18K a year. We weren't rich but we lived well....A new Vette back then was 3K to 4K new depending on what you got. New nice home was 20 to 30K.

In the spring of 69 I bought a 65 2 top roadster for 2,500.

Lots of changes since then.

Yea, I made $23 in 74 right out of college with an engineering degree. So, $3k for the 67 wasn't bad.

But paying off the college loans was a pain in the ass.
