Morning everybody...big day yesterday with the farmers trying to get as much planted as possible before the rain today. We could use a nice rain not a bad rain......

Had to tell Ultragirl that we would not fund the internship to New York this summer. The company would be happy to give her an internship but unfortunately it was not a paid position. When we did the math we had to say no....which we hate to do but it was going to run up to a lot of dough.

This whole new way of hiring through internships is not all bad but the competition is fierce and the companies need to pay for the position since the kids are working for them everyday......this whole education cost thing is a rant waiting to happen for me.....it's bullshit.....

Going to stay in and get caught up in the office today and stare at my car a lot.....thinking what a rolling peice of artwork it is........

Let's get out there and kick some ass today boys and girls.......yeeeehaaaaa!

Happy Friday! Well, not real happy, as it's gonna start going downhill today, and tomorrow it'll be a balmy 45 with rain/snow - just lovely. Oh well, I guess that's what they make indoors for.

Grin and bear it, Gurus!

The one thing I know I don't like. In high winds there would be a whole lot of flapping going on. Metal and wood don't do that.

The independent testing is interesting, especially the "Shall not be installed"

Morning guys....it's Friday and very close to the end of the school year. My seniors are getting restless and it pizzes me off, so I'm grumpy.

I think i'd be filling my pants if I was either the pilot or those guys in the back of the Hurky.

Thanks for the info Bill. Went back to looking at aluminum panels. Plywood is too heavy an bulky, panels are expensive but cheaper than other options. The way I wanted to do it I had three quotes. 10.8K 12.4K and one over 14K. The aluminum panels came in at 5.2K. That was the lowest bid I got but the least preferable way to do it and the vendor is .... well, an aluminum guy.

OK ... After getting multiple estimates and figuring out how much it would cost me to do it myself, the guy with the 10.2K price is the winner. We're gonna call him up and see what we can do. By the time I get the material and do it myself it comes out to less than $40 a window difference. Let's get Americans back to work. I have enough to do without playing with that. See how it plays out.

Yea, I'm skeptical about, well.........everything.

Especially advertising claims.

It just looked a bit funny to me from an engineering standpoint. And when you look on their website: "Meets Fl.code XXXXX " Yea, what's that? "Withstands Cat 5", OK but.......

I wondered how it could take a hit and not pull the anchors out............then fornd the concrete thing.

The other thing that bugged me is the flex when the 2x4 hit it. How far away must the windows be to not get hit???

Anyway, it may be a decent product, in concrete, with the windows 8 in. away.

13 windows. The major expense is closing in the patio. That's gonna cost more than all the windows combined. Right now we're just going to do the windows. We'll deal with the patio later.

You didn't mention that, that's false advertising.

Unless it's $10k for just the windows.

If so, I'm movin' to Fl. and become a window shield contractor.

Hi Marcus...I wasnt paying attention, did Ultraboy get the c5 for prom? And you dont want to go there about this education thing....My #2 Kid is going to Penn State in the Fall. Penn State rarely givesany scholarships....we got Zilch. And Erik carries a 3.9 with a weighted average of somewhere near 4.5. I thought that meant something. He's crushed by the thought of paying back school loans.I'm disabled. Know how much we got in student grants? Zilch. And this is with 2 kids in college.
My FASFA expected contribution for him is $18K. Luckily we saved from the time he was born and have enough for about a year's credits. That'll get spread out over the four years. The rest? Student loans. I truely hate to say it, but I wish I wasn't lucky enough to work hard enough to become Middle Class before I got sick. Either you're rich and pay for college, or your poor and are given college. If you're in the middle........they make you poor paying for it. I was the first college grad in my family. I thought that counted for something too. A leg up to be able to afford college for my kids. Good luck with that theory huh? Well, I did get them this far in life and I managed to get a Vette, so I need to stop bitchin I guess. I did a fair amount of time starin' at it today. You're right. Its a work of art. In motion standing still. I am lucky.
Ciao guys,
Alan

Or he can be like my son. Graduate with a computer science major in MIS and a minor in business then go to work for a cruise line where none of that education was required. I used to see it in the USPS too. I worked with guys with degrees in accounting, biology and a host of other fields. Yep! Poatal workers. Education sometimes is highly over rated but in many cases a necessity. What am I saying? I don't know myself.

Ya Alan there are fields of study that need people right away out of college and then there are the ones that may not. Some fields help if you have a degree and some not. Like Tommy was saying. My daughters both have gotten or are getting marketing degrees and both have worked for people who were their bosses who never went to college.....that really fried my kids.

My oldest is managing a photography business and doing wedding planning and is doing quite well at it. She started out in retail after college where she did not need a degree, but it was all she could get in these times.

Don't forget on the Plus loans that the parents sign...that is your name on there not your kids. So if the kid can't get a good enough job to pay the loan the bill comes to you every month. Ask how I know that?

Other kids with medical background degrees or financial accounting degrees got right with it with good jobs out of college.

We will do what we can for our kids and the rest is up to them......and yeah I ain't complaining just making statements.....

Tommy.....who is Howard Dean?
